Nervous!
Sometimes I just hate me for being nervous whenever I step my foot inside my new workplace. I have been working here since 4-5 months and things have been going well as of now apart from the CEO of my work place. Seeing the doors of the elevator getting closed, I rushed towards it without caring if anyone is looking at me running frantically on my heels and the pencil skirt I'm wearing isn't helping at all. And let me tell you, that skirt is not made for running!
The doors were about to close, but suddenly it stopped midway re-opening the door widely in front of me. I scanned the people inside the elevator and found some usual faces of whom I still don't know the names. I know that they are the part of the big firm I work in and some of the faces beam at me whenever I send them a smile, well smiling doesn't cost much right? And I do it really well.
But among all these faces, I found a familiar face, it was Noah, my colleague and one of the member of the wing I belong to. He was the one who pressed the button and prevented the door from getting closed. I bowed to the people as an apology because they might have felt some sort of disturbance on a fine Monday morning just because of me and I can't entertain it.
I squeezed myself into the little space I had and I smiled at Noah once again while uttering a small 'thank you' to which he replied, 'no mention'. His blue eyes collided with mine and I had to look away as I felt a bit awkward at the way he was staring, but that's a friendly one and I like to think in that way only.
Noah and I joined the company around the same time and we bonded over our struggles of adjusting to a new workplace. He's half European and half Korean, so he had a hard time fitting in with some of his colleagues. But we quickly became friends and even formed a trio with Daeun, who was assigned to take care of us. Working with them is a blast, especially since we share a similar mindset - sometimes sane, sometimes completely insane!
Many people got off at different floors leaving me and Noah alone till the 40th floor. I asked, "how was your weekend Noah? "
He smiled before saying, "it went pretty well as I got 10 hours of sleep peacefully. What about yours? "
I chuckled, but I can't blame him though because I love sleeping too.
I replied, "as usual I was at my parent's and this weekend went too quickly like, within a blink of the eye it's Monday again."
I sighed but that's how life works. Well, I shifted to the city where I work and became independent as I own a small apartment amidst the vast city. My parents didn't had any problem as they were the ones who suggested me to move to this city because our home were far away from my previous work place and it was really difficult for me to travel long distance. But I always made sure to visit them during weekends and be with them whenever they need me. Even though we're kilometers apart, still we are connected in such a way that we can sense even a small discomfort in any of us.
While I was thinking about all this, the dinging sound heard indicating us that we reached our floor. As a gentleman he is, he let me exit first and he followed me. We sat on our seats, but Daeun was already present at her PC and was drinking her usual coffee.
She smiled at me and handed me few small candies. I couldn't help but chuckle as she said, "since you're a candy lover, I thought of getting you some."
Indeed I love candies and it's a habit which I developed recently. I have a sweet tooth and eating candies became my favorite past time. I know it sounds diabetes at early age, I tried my level best to control my urge but I end up at a candy store near my apartment. I eat candies to reduce my stress level and anyone can find 7-8 candies inside my bag anytime, but I put a stop to candies and started eating milk chocolates instead. I'm sure that I'll die early, but my work outs will keep me alive for a while I guess.
