Melody Taylor
Melody sighed as she signed in, she slowly walked through the gates of Long Island Penitentiary. The shaky feeling she often got when she walked through stuck to her like glue. She sat down and rubbed a sanitized Kleenex over the phone before placing it to her ear.
"Melody, wow look at you."
"Luther." She said.
Luther Taylor better known as LT is her father. The man who has caused her so many daddy issues now. He was serving 10 years for armed robbery, he served 7 and he had three more to go.
"I see we're still on first name bases." He sighed.
Melody couldn't stand her father but at the end of the day you only get one. She didn't know any other blood relatives and he was all she had, vice versa.
"How have you been holding up?" She asked changing the subject.
"I've been good, what about you? I heard about the shooting...do I need to call some people?" He asked.
She couldn't help but to chuckle before shaking her head.
"No, I'm fine." She said.
"How have you been other than that?" He asked.
"I've been better, just working. I'm dating." She said.
He raised a brow and sat back.
"What happened to James?" He asked.
She chuckled and shook her head.
"You told me yourself a man who only wants to see you in on your back-"
"Doesn't want you." He said finishing her sentence.
"Exactly." She nodded.
"I didn't think you would take any advice from me." He shrugged.
"Yeah, well you were right." She said.
"I've been in these counseling sessions and I feel like we should talk about the abuse." He said.
Melody looked at him and sat back, not prepared for this conversation.
"The abuse you witness is something I wish I can take back. It led to your mother's overdose and it left you scarred." He said.
Melody felt her eyes get watery before she sucked in her breath and nodded.
"It did have an effect on me, but it just showed me what I wouldn't put up with when dealing with a man. I forgave you a long time ago Luther for myself and for my mental health." She said.
"I'm sorry I put you through that, as your father I was supposed to show you how a man supposed to treat a woman." He said as tears fell down his cheeks.
Melody looked down at the steel table and sniffed.
"That's why I'm here...I'm here to build that foundation that we missed out on years ago." She sniffed.
