2 months later

Melody Taylor

Melody grabbed Mingi's hand as he helped her out of the car. She moved her hair out of her face and opened the back seat.

"No, I got him." Mingi said mushing her.

Melody laughed as he grabbed the car seat. MJ's progress did improve and they were able to bring him home a month ago. He was now a whooping 8 pounds and 14 ounces.

"He is my son as well." She said.

"And?" He asked grabbing her hand.

She shook her head as they walked into the court house. Today was her dad's hearing and she was excited for him to meet MJ.

They walked through the courthouse hand in hand before entering the assigned court room.

"Case 265789, all rise."

Melody and Mingi stood as the judge came into the court room. Once they sat down they brought Luther out and she smiled as he scanned the room looking for her.

She waved her hand causing him to look in her direction. She smiled before they began, she nervously shook her leg through the whole process.

"Do you have any witness to judge your character Mr.Taylor?"

"I'm here." Melody said standing.

"Yes, my daughter your honor." Luther said.

Melody nervously walked to the panel and adjusted the mic. She cleared her throat and took a deep breath.

"I believe my father has served enough time. My father and I had an estranged relationship...it took me 20 plus years to call him dad. I believe he has paid his debt to society, we're trying to build a relationship with one another and he still hasn't met his grandson. I want my child-"

Mingi coughed causing her to look at him.

"I want our child to have a relationship with his grandfather to see that change can happen no matter the mistakes that were made. That everyone deserves a second chance, so I make this statement with a pure heart that Luther Taylor deserves to be released." She said.

The judge nodded before Melody walked back to her seat. She peeked into the car seat and smiled placing her finger into MJ's small palm.

"Don't tell me you're going to be a mommas boy?" Mingi asked rolling his eyes.

Melody giggled and stuck her tongue out at him.

"Shut up, when he turns two I'll give you a girl." She said.

"Promise?" He asked.

"I promise." She smiled.

"The court believes that Luther Taylor who was sentenced to ten years for armed robbery deserves a second chance."

Melody let out a breath before she smiled.

"You will be released on parole Mr.Taylor. Do not make us regret this because your daughter played a huge part in our decision today. Congratulations."

"Thank you sir." Luther said.

"You're welcome, we will draw up the paper work and have you on your way. Ms.Taylor I assume you will be taking him to the halfway house?"

"Yes." Melody said.

Melody watched as they removed the restraints from Luther's hand before she stood up. She embraced him in a hug causing him to chuckle.
