THIRD PERSON'S POV
Storming up to her girlfriend near the school lockers, Willa snapped. "What're you not convinced about, Noelle?!" The wolf growled. River looked up at her somewhat tempered girlfriend and chuckled, confused. "What?" Rio questioned. "Is our relationship not good enough for you anymore or something?" Willa accused. "Willa" River says but Willa was too gone.
"Is it because I kept signing you out of your Netflix account to watch shows again? Because I was gonna apologize when I got around to it".
"It's just that when you kept watching shows it messed up the time for when i wanted to go rewatch them" Willa reasoned. River shakes her head, bouncing her curly Afro. "Willa, what are you talking about right now?" She finally says. Thinking back on what Willa had previously said, Rio pushed Willa's shoulder back. "Wait- it's been you the whole time!?" She said with a smile. "Don't worry about that" Her girlfriend waves her off. Willa sighs and leans her body against the lockers.
"Addison told me that you weren't convinced about something in our relationship and I need to know what that is". "I—" River tried to speak but Willa wouldn't let her. "So what is it?" The wolf asked, eyeing Rio up and down. "Babe—" River chuckled, still not able to get a clear answer for Willa's sudden behavior.
"Why are you hesitating?".
"Let me talk!".
Willa cocked her head back and glared at her girlfriend before pursing her lips together and nodding, giving in to being silent. "It was just about college, W. That's it" Rio began to explain. Willa's brows pulled together and she glanced to her right while crossing her arms. "What... what about it?" Was asked as her eyes found their way back to the shorter girl in front of her. River shrugged her shoulders, trying to avoid the conversation. "Riv?" Willa questioned. "Fine. Whatever" Rio sighed and threw her hands up.
"When Zed found out that he could apply for college by getting a recruiter and winning the game you didn't seem so thrilled about it".
"Okay... Meaning what?" Willa says, not fully understanding why she was apart of the topic to begin with. Still, she lets her girlfriend continue. "Meaning that if you had that type of chance, like with dancing, I felt that you wouldn't have taken it..." River stated. "But why would you think that? Knowing how I feel about it?" Willa questioned, stepping up once again. "'Cause I thought that you were scared" Rio said.
"I'm not scared of anything" Willa responded. River scoffed and laughed; "Girl please". "I'm not!" Willa said. River nods and pressed her lips together to form a line. "Anyway... how's your project coming?" She asked, changing topics. Willa tilts her head and looks at the younger girl with confusion. "Project? What project?" The wolf questions. River grins, feeling unamused but yet she does it anyway. "The one with Wyatt... The reason why you ditched me earlier and couldn't listen to my date plans for us tonight" River raised a brow.
Willa snapped her fingers at the same time and taps the side of her head.
"I... Right. Sorry, must've slipped my mind" She faked a small chuckle before sending a soft smile Rio's way. "Just like everything else lately" River mutters underneath her breath as she looks down and kicks her feet to the front of her, taking in the sight of Willa's platform heeled boots. Knowingly hearing her mutter, Willa brows creased and she twisted her lips to the side while feeling an ache in her chest. It had been happening a lot recently but she pushing it away to focus on the bigger things she had to deal with.
"Don't be shy, love. Say it louder" Willa challenged, lifting River's head with her curled index finger. Willa slightly licked her lips once they made eye contact. Ignoring the soft caressing of Willa's thumb against her chin that was dangerously close to her bottom lip, River cleared her throat and gently tugged Willa's hand away. "I was thinking we could do something later this week since you are busy now" River stated. "Because if I'm being real, I haven't been—".
"Willa, you left your textbook in the library!".
"That's because I didn't need it, Lucy" Willa said to the girl with glasses that had came up to them with a thick textbook. "Oh... Well, I was wondering if you needed help studying?" River glanced up at Willa before she took in the sight of the ginger in pigtails. The somewhat building conversation was still going on and it made River roll her eyes. "You know since you're a dancer and all, I know how time consuming it can be" The freckled girl questioned.
"Just like this conversation!" River says, stepping into the small gap between Willa and Lucy, now face to face with her. "Hi. I'm River. Willa's girlfriend" River held her hand out for the girl to shake. Lucy halfheartedly smiled back but didn't shake her hand. "So I've heard" She says. "Great, you have working ears! Which means that you clearly heard and saw us talking when you came over, right?".
"Riv, drop it" Pressing a hand on her hip, Willa pulling River back from Lucy. But Rio didn't listen. "And if she needed studying for anything, she has me before she will ever even think to come to you" River eyed her up and down before latching her left hand with Willa's hand that rested on her hip. "Willa?" Lucy looked up at the wolf as if she could possibly defend her against her own girlfriend. "You heard her" Willa smirked. Lucy looked back and forth between the couple before staring back at River.
"What're you still standing here for?" River questioned.
After that Lucy stomped her foot on the marbled hallway flooring and drops the textbook with force. "Ugh!" She groaned loudly before storming off. River craned her neck to look behind Willa's body in saw Lucy's figure getting smaller as she walked down the hallway. Willa's spun her around by hand so they would be facing each other. River took her hand away from Willa's and crossed her arms. "The hell was that?" Rio questions the Lucy situation.
"Doesn't matter. She's just some random girl that's been trying to talk to ms since the first day of school" Willa explained, fidgeting with Rio's dangly golden earrings. "Hmm" River hums, unfolding her arms. Just as her hands fell to their sides, Willa reaches out her left hand to connect it with River's. "That was cute" Willa grins. River raised her eyebrows and hummed. "So, like I was saying... I was wondering if you'd want to come and help with this art piece I got going right now" River says, hoping that Willa would be into her suggestion.
"I've been really inspired and I was thinking about adding it into my submission".
"You applied again?".
"I wanted to be sure that they got it, Wil..." River frowned. "Still waiting, huh?" Willa asked. "It's a really tough spot to get. Millions are shooting for the same thing as me, I'm not the only talented artist in the world, you know? And the thing is, am I even tal—" River was going to continue speaking her racing thoughts but Willa stopped her. "Baby, you're doing it again. Just breathe" Willa says while her right hand falls from her girlfriend's earring to caressing her cheek and finding its way to her shoulder, gently massaging away whatever tension she felt. River twisted her lips and sighed deeply.
"So, you're gonna come help me with this piece?" She asked, getting back on topic. "I—" Willa began to say her answer before she was cut off by another voice. "Hey Rio? I need you" Mason came up to them, slightly out of breath. River glanced over at Mason and shook her head. "Mace, not now" She says, putting her attention back on Willa. "But—" Mason goes to reason, but Willa was now the one to speak up. "Just go, Riv" Willa says.
"What?" River frowns. Willa nods and softly smiles. "It's fine, really" she tells Rio. River scoffed before pulling herself away from Willa. "Whatever" She muttered. "We'll talk about it later, okay?" Willa said. "Don't worry about it. Forget it" River detached her hand from Willa's as she made her way to Mason in a few steps. "Babe" Willa says, her hand feeling cold as Rivers warm hand left hers. "Let's go, M" River turns away and starts walking in the direction Mason came from.
"You can't be mad at me!" Willa called out, watching her girlfriend leave with her best friend.
