THIRD PERSON'S POV
"So... what do you think?" Willa asked as she sat across from her girlfriend outside of the restaurant that Willa picked out for their dinner date. It was cute, to say the least in River's opinion. Willa wore a purple halter top, black boots, and all black leathered pants that went with her cropped leather jacket. Her hair was still pinned back like River did it on Game night which showed off her piercings and layered gold necklace. It had only been three days since the argument had happened.
They didn't really speak up until now.
Willa had called about two hours ago and told Rio to get dressed. They were passing the time at the park and chilled in the car before Willa suggests that they go out to eat. "I love it!" River smiled. "Yeah?" Willa asked with a look of relief on her face. "Of course" River nodded as she rubbed her nose side to side with the palm of her hand. Willa rolled her eyes and stopped herself from taking another bite of her steak.
"Really?" She questioned the girl in the red long sleeve dress with white flowers on it. River pulled her brows together and she grins. "What?" Rio says. "The nose rub" Willa points out. "I don't know what you're talking about" River pressed her lips together with a shoulder shrug. "You start to mess with your face when you lie".
"No, I don't".
"Then why are you scrunching up your nose?" Willa asked, taking notice of River shifting in her chair. She sighed, briefly closing her eyes and licking her lips a bit. "Just say you don't like it, honey. It's fine" Willa said as she wiped her greasy hands on the napkin next to her. "It..." River started but not sure if she wanted to continue. The date was weird. It wasn't like the others. This one was more... dull. The air they sat in was awkward, they hardly kept up with their conversation and Willa didn't make her laugh.
Not. Even. Once.
It felt like Willa was trying to prove something. "It feels like you only did this to get back in with me" River says softly. "What do you mean?" Willa asked, confused. "It doesn't feel genuine!" River blurted out, her eyes widened and she quickly covered her mouth.
Willa raised a brow and let moment sink in. "'Doesn't feel genuine'" She repeated. "This is literally the most genuine I can get" the wolf says, feeling defeated. "Well, if that's the case then that's not good" River tells her. "I don't get it" Willa expresses. River's gaze moves away from Willa as she leans away from her drink. She slightly threw her left hand up before it met the cold table and sits upright in the chair, sighing.
"Willa, you lied to me—".
"And you complained about the dates, so I took you out on one!".
"It feels forced!" River says. "You didn't even want to go out the last time, why now?" She questioned. "I don't get why you're making this a big deal!" Willa says through her teeth as people start to look at them, inside and outside of the restaurant. "You're not doing it out of your heart! You're... you're just doing it out of guilt so you don't have to be the bad guy".
"Like, "okay, fixed! Now she can't be mad anymore."!" River explained. Willa leans back in her chair and tilts her head to the side as River frowns. "Now it's guilt?" The dark skin girl questioned. "All I'm saying is that it doesn't feel like you're all the way in, baby" River said with a calm tone as she held back tears. "Yeah, I got it. 'Can't even take you out because you don't trust me!" Willa growled, sitting up in her chair with an angry expression.
"I didn't say that!" River said.
"But that's what I got!" Willa huffed, her fist hitting the table and made River jump.
Just then, a server from the restaurant with a scruffy beard comes up to them nervously, eyes darting between them. "Excuse me, but would you mind keeping it down?" He asked as the couple turned to look at him. He gulps at Willa's dark stare and River's irritated one. "It's just... I-It's starting to disturb the other guests" the server explained motion his index finger around. "If not, I'm going to have to ask you to leave" he told them.
"Tell them to mind their own fucking business. And if they can't, I'll make it their business" Willa growls, wolfing out with a smile, showing off her pointy fangs and glowing orange eyes.
"I'm sorry for the commotion" River says politely and touched his shaky hand; "It won't be a problem any longer, our apologies".
"Be lucky I'm not ripping you apart" Willa hissed as he fearfully smiled at River before he ran away. "Let's go" River says, grabbing her purse and standing up from the chair. "I'm not done." Willa said. "I am." River responded back. "You ruined my appetite" She says as she walks away. "I ruined your appetite?!" Willa called out, grabbing her jacket and followed behind her.
"I'm trying, but you're so impossible to please right now!" Willa argued.
River spun around in the parking lot with tears streaming down her face. "I just wanted an actual apology—explanation!" She spats. Willa finally reached her side and huffed, catching her breath. "Babe... Baby, I did what you asked and figured it out! I did that!" Willa said with exhaustion as she struggled to get through to her girlfriend. "No, you did what I asked. Not what you wanted!" River cleared. "What the fu..." Willa threw her head back and laughed in disbelief. "Okay, so, I'm wrong either way?" She says, looking back down at her crying girlfriend, wiping her tears away with the back of her hand.
"If I don't do anything, I don't care. If I do something, it's not genuine!? I can't— I don't know what you want from me!".
"It just feels like your head's somewhere else half of the time now and everything that I do—".
"That's because it is, Riv!" Willa admits suddenly with a small jump in her black boots. She couldn't take the arguing anymore. It was tiring and heartbreaking for her to see her girl like this. "Then talk to me." River said softly as she sniffled and stepped up to Willa, a hand on her chest and the other cups her face and gently aimed it at her, making eye contact with her sad eyes. "Please?" The soft beg was enough to make Willa's heart clench.
She then cups Rio's face in her hands and wiped away the tears that were clinging to her face.
Willa pressed her lips against the shorter's girl's forehead and then lifted her chin to kiss her lips.
"I will, I promise".
