THIRD PERSON'S POV

The last time Willa tried to go check on River, she found her knocked out cold—sprawled out on top of her fluffy covers in her pajamas.

As amusing and adorable as it was to see, Willa had carried Rio to her side of the bed, making sure her pillows were in place before placing her down on the mattress.

She had kissed the top of her forehead, gently fixed River's sliding bonnet, and pulled the fluffy comforter over her body. Willa had softly smiled and twisted her lips to the side, feeling guilty that River had gone to sleep upset. She was going to fix it later on, but for now all she wanted to do was let her girlfriend sleep in peace. But, that had been almost two hours ago, since River kicked Willa out of her room the first time around.

Being the first to hear her footsteps on the steps, well, really hearing her bedroom door open, Willa looks up from the paper she was holding and gulps.

"Hey guys" River yawned. "Hey pretty" Willa acknowledged. "You call that pretty?" Karma scoffs and shook her head, erasing Willa's answer off her paper—again. "How was your nap?" Willa asked. "Good" Rio shrugs as she walks into the kitchen. "Nice" Willa's eyes never left River. Karma snaps her fingers and waved in Willa's face. "Uh, you're supposed to be helping me, not undressing her with your eyes" the younger girl stated while rolling her eyes.

Willa snaps her head at Karma with wide eyes. "I... I wasn't!" She denied. Karma eyed the she-wolf up and down. "Right" she chuckled. Walking back into the living room with a juice box in hand, River sits on the far end of the couch. "What're you guys doing anyway?" She asked. "Well, after you fell asleep on me, I came down to bug Dahlia, but she left to go to the bakery" Willa began to explain. River nods, not making eye contact. "S-so, I decided to help Lucky Karms with her studying" Willa finished, taking in River's stiff demeanor as she talked.

"She's not doing a very good job with math" Karma pointed out. "Hey!" Willa called out, hitting her with the paper that she held. "Trust me, I know. The only math she truly knows is a good eight-count" Rio told Karma. "But I also know another reason why" She winks causing Karma to hum. "Yeah? And what's that?" Willa butts in. "It's because you're too worried about your own project to actually focus on anything else" River says before slurping her juice.

"Is that true? You should've told me!" Karma asked Willa, turning her head. "No. I'll always have time for you" Willa replied, stretching out her arm to give a side hug. "Gross!" Karma squealed. "You're so weird about affection" Willa laughed as she lets go. "At least she's getting something out of you" River commented. Karma looks back and forth between the couple before pressing her lips together.

"Yeahhh, I think it's time for me to head back upstairs. I'll figure this out on my own" Karma says.

She stand up and begins to grab her work. "Hey?" River grabs her attention before she had all of her work and could touch the staircase. "Yo?" Karma responded, looking back at her older sister. "I'll be up there to help you later. I promise" River swore. "Cool" Karma half smiled and nodded. Willa waved goodbye and watched the younger girl disappear into the hallway of the bedrooms.

Once she heard the door closed, Willa turned to River. "Back to you, you good?" Willa asked. "Yeah, probably still got some sleep in me. Groggy and whatnot" River responded, grabbing the tv remote and lying down on the couch. Willa hummed and nodded. "Don't you have somewhere to be?" River asked as she looked at the time on the screen before opening Netflix to watch finish watching Twilight. "No. Why do you keep asking me that?" Willa says, slightly annoyed as she lifts up Rio's legs and places them in her lap once she got close enough for her liking.

"Nothing, I just saw on the screen that it's almost five so I figured..." River shrugs; "But if you have nowhere to be then just forget that we're talking about it!".

"Are you sure you're okay?" Willa asks with a frown.

"All good" River answers.

"Is this about what happened in the bathroom? Because I swear to the moon that I wasn't—".

"No, it's not. And I know" River stated after cutting her girlfriend off. "River..." Willa frowns, moving her right hand to touch Rio's back while the other massaged her feet. "Baby... just tell me what I did" Willa said. "Nothing. It's n-nothing..." River began to sob. Willa's brows raised and she instantly gets off the couch, falling to her knees to be face to face with Rio. "Hey, hey. What's up? What's wrong?"Willa questions, sitting River upright so they could talk properly.

"W-why are you crying?" Willa asks, wiping her girlfriend's cheek.

"Why did you lie?" River finally asked.

Willa scrunched up her nose and chuckles. "What?" She smiled, still confused. "Don't 'what' me. You heard what I said!" River hissed. "Babe" Willa sighs. "I asked if you had somewhere to be twice and you told me no".

"Because I don't!" Willa exclaimed. "You told me that you had a project with Wyatt around five and you didn't leave yet. Find that little weird" River reminded the wolf. Willa eyes widened slightly to the information as it dawned on her. She blinked, clearing her throat and began to mess with the loose string on Rio's shorts. "I...I changed it to tomorrow so I could hang out with you" Willa lied. "But when I asked you to do that for our date, you told me you couldn't because of the project, so which one is it?!" River said, fuming.

"Riv... come on." Willa chuckled before frowning as she tried to put her girlfriend at ease but wasn't sure how. "You know what?" River stood up from the couch and walked away; "You don't even have to tell me! 'Cause I already asked Wyatt about this and he told me there was no project".

Willa held her head down where River's body warmth radiated and placed her hand on the couch to push herself up. "So you didn't trust me?" Willa questioned as she stood up and turned to River, who stood across the coffee table near the door. "No, no, I trust you! Don't get it twisted" River said. "But when you told me about the project, I knew it had to be full of shit. Just like you".

"Excuse me?!" Willa barked, walking away from the couch, away from the coffee table to meet her girlfriend.

"All you had to do was say that you didn't want to do the date! I didn't care about the fact that you forgot about it, and I wouldn't have been mad about you not wanting to do the next one!".

"But for you to lie to me more about your made up lie is messed up!" River continued.

"Rio... baby, I'm sorry" Willa apologized. "Just go, Lykensen" River tried to walk off but Willa didn't let her. "I'm sorry, alright?" Willa says as she pressed kisses against Rio's forehead. "I don't feel like arguing anymore" River says, sadly. "I never wanted to argue with you in the first place!" Willa made clear, growing more upset. "Then you shouldn't have lied!" River snapped as she pushed Willa away and threw her hands up, attempting to walk off again.

Willa pulls her in closer by the waist and searches her teary eyes for something she wasn't sure of.

"...Willa" River turns her head. "I'm sorry, love. You're right I shouldn't have lied" Willa starts to kiss her neck when she realizes that she wasn't gonna get it on the lips. Willa rubs her nose against the soft, non-alien scented, skin of her girlfriend and kissed her collarbone. "I'll make it up to you, okay? Tell me how and I'll—" River unlocks the door and Willa stops her movements and pulls away. "Figure it out on your own" the words made Willa's heart sink, but not more than the sadden look she saw on River's beautiful face.

River raised a brow and stood her ground as she waited for her girlfriend to leave her house.
