THIRD PERSON'S POV

The last two weeks flew by just like the rest and Willa was more energetic than the last time Rio had saw her. But it only had lasted about a minute before she went back to her usual moody self. Though, Willa had agreed to put aside the moodiness and be the amazing date for her girlfriend that night. Apparently, River had it all planned out— and that there was something that she needed to tell her. Willa couldn't tell if it was good or bad to save her life.

River stood alone at her locker after a tall white boy with red roses and large poster left her side.

She smiled, thinking about how she'd helped her classmate with his homecoming proposal earlier that week. "No one should be drenched in that much cologne" Willa stated as she leaned against the pink locker, two lockers down away from Rivers. "Be nice. He's just nervous" River tells her, turning her head to look at Willa while her back is still pressed against the locker. "I see you didn't take the flowers" Willa commented, eyeing the spot where the boy once stood. River rolled her eyes and turned her head forward. "They weren't for me." She said.

Willa raised a brow and also looked forward. The silence had arrived just after Willa had cleared her throat and placed her hands in her pocket. From the corner of her eye, she watched River pull out her phone. She closed her eyes shut and softly lets the back of her head hit the locker, repeatedly—not making a sound. This was so awkward. They'd never been awkward before. River was engrossed by her phone and, for the first time in a while, Willa had nothing to say.

Normally, by now, they'd probably be in a heated argument like it was part of their morning routine.

But this week, there hadn't been any. They were both grateful for it, obviously. Some would say it was a new record. But instead of the arguments, it was just these awkward moments that made Willa feel worse about everything that was happening lately. "Did you like them?" Willa asked. River tugged her brows together. She shuts her phone off with her thumb and turns her head towards Willa. "What?" River questioned flatly.

It didn't sound like her. Her tone was different. It had a quickness to it, colder and more defensive. Like she had been preparing herself for Willa to say something wrong. Her facial expression was clearly over it when she looked up at Willa with brief narrowing, accusing eyes instead of her usual soft loving and curious ones. Willa had barely said five words, and she was triggered. Willa lets out a soft chuckle and scratch the back of her head. "The flowers. Did you like them?" Willa says.

"I just told you they weren't for me" River said with growing annoyance.

Willa nodded, understandingly. "Yeah, I- I know. I was just—" River pushed her weight off the locker and turned to face Willa. "So why keep bringing it up?" She asked. "I'm just asking if you liked the flowers, Riv. I know roses aren't your thing, but maybe you changed your mind about them" Willa says it in an innocent manner. She hadn't gotten River flowers in a while. Her plan was to get a bouquet from a flower shop she saw a few days ago and wanted to be sure. She didn't want to mess up again. "If you know that they aren't my thing, then why are you asking?".
