it's monday, and the atmosphere in the malik household haven't been as pleasant as one would desire. zayn hasn't had that talk he'd been meaning to have with harry yet, because he honestly didn't know how to go about. the teen had been pretty much keeping to himself, he didn't talk to anyone at breakfast, during dinner or any other time throughout the day. the times where he did speak, he only addressed niall. it seems as though he didn't want to speak to anyone in the house except for the eldest teen otherwise. not that louis gave a crap about his bratty little brother not talking to him, he actually found some sort of peace in not being annoyed by his younger sibling.harry on the other hand, had calmed down a little. even though he wasn't physically talking to anyone, he hadn't been defiant since having that talk with liam. mainly keeping to himself, nodding, shaking his head or shrugging when he was addressed. of course, he was still upset about being grounded and having his electronics taken away, it all seemed like it was unfair and that it was for nothing. but he didn't care much about it anymore. the teen felt a little better when they went off the school the next day because it meant he could be away from the house anyway, and be around people he actually didn't mind being around.
harry had surprisingly taken a liking to being at school. it was the one place he genuinely got to be somewhat free in. sure, there were still annoying teachers and the school's code of conduct, but it felt better than being at home sometimes where he felt like all the odds were stacked against him. recently, harry's been feeling oddly low-spirited and moody. one day he just woke up and didn't feel like being the lively, happy person he always is. it really all begin when school had started back up again after summer break.
he had finally started making some friends of his own age, and got to talk about normal teenage things that he didn't really get to talk to anyone about at home. you would think that something like that would make him more happy. however, the more he had hung out with these new people, the more he begin to realize that he rarely had anything in common with them. they were quite different from him, and he was finding it difficult to connect with them. the things they'd talk about were far out of range from any experiences harry has even come close to.
unlike them, he'd never been to a party—hell, he was never even been invited to one. he'd never drank before—he was way too young to even think about it, he'd never skipped class or ditched school before, because god knows his dad would never allow such delinquent behavior, nor had he smoked weed (except for that one time with louis, which ended up in disaster anyway) or stayed out all night hanging out with friends, doing whatever they pleased without worry.
harry quite literally had not a single similar experience. he'd had camille sleep over at his house a few times, but that's about as far as it goes. it was tough enough being judged for being different, but it was tougher trying to build bonds with kids he had nothing in common with. it was obvious a lot of other kids didn't have strict parents, they had more freedom to explore and do things harry would never in a million years dream of being allowed to do. it got harry thinking about a lot of things, and it never really crossed his mind just how incompatible he is from everyone else.
is that really the gist of what all teenagers did? is harry supposed to be like that at his age, was he supposed to want to be like that? or was it weird that he simply wasn't like everybody else and still enjoyed childish things that involved; still kissing his parents on the mouth, snuggling and spending quality time with them, or sitting on his dad's lap from time to time, or spending free time watching anime or disney movies, and playing kiddie video games? he always hears from the kids he's around, how much they hate spending pointless quality time with their family, or how they'd rather use their free time hanging out with friends and going out doing fun things that sometimes went outside of their age range.
