liam and zayn move to the couch, sitting down on opposite ends from one another. for the first several moments they both remain silence, gathering their thoughts on what they wanted to say to one another. it was clear they had to take a softer approach to the matter in order for another argument not to sprout from simply talking to one another.

zayn had needed some time to cool off before addressing it with liam. the things that were said to him hurt him, he wasn't going to deny that. though there were some truth to said words, it didn't make them hurt any less. both of them were hurt by what was said, even if it didn't seem like that much of a big deal. but, when it comes to the kids and the way they parent, it's always taken seriously.

they both had things that they needed to talk about and figure out, even things that they had been holding onto for a long time that also played apart of that sudden argument they'd had yesterday. there were more than just one factor that lead up to it. might as well put it all on the table while they are here and are willing to discuss the ongoing issues in their marriage. zayn brushes a hand through his hair, exhaling heavily as he's the first one to speak up.

"obviously, we both have something we need to get off our chests." he states, looking over to his husband with a peculiar expression that couldn't quite be read. liam nods in agreement.

"you're right, we do." he responds. "we both said so unpleasant things to one another, but i really don't want to continue on the way that we have been, holding in things that we want to say. it's what got us here in the first place." liam admits. it's true. they both tended to avoid serious topics whenever it was possible. unfortunately, when hushed issues carry on for a certain period, it becomes explosive unexpectedly.

they both knew deep down that that quarrel the other day had absolutely nothing to do with the vacation at all. it was all because they had both reached their peak.

"i agree, but the way it was said wasn't right." zayn replies.

"i know, i'm sorry for how i said what i said, but i'm sure we can both agree that there was some truth to it." liam says to him. zayn's eyebrow twitches, clearly not liking that.

"liam, i love all the boys equally, i wouldn't dream of treating them a certain kind of way because i 'love' one of them more than the other. that's crazy." zayn tells him. liam groans, rubbing a hand over his face.

"see, you're not understanding what i'm saying."

"then explain it, because that's all i'm getting out of it." zayn deadpans, tilting his head slightly. liam refrains from rolling his eyes and saying anything unnecessary such as; calling zayn an idiot. instead, he exhaled deeply.

"what i'm saying is that you treat them unfairly, not because you favor one over the other, but simply because you think it's what they can handle." liam says, hoping that he explained his point in a way that won't make it sound malicious or hurtful. he really wasn't aiming to hurt zayn's feelings, he merely wanted him to understand it from his (as well as the boys') prospective. zayn tended to get defensive when something is said to him that doesn't sit right, and always jumped to defend himself even though no one had intended to attack him in any way.

it's one of his biggest bad habits, really.

"okay, what makes you think that?" zayn asks, a little calmer this time, meaning that hopefully liam got his point across.

"it's not what i think, it's what i know," liam replies, making zayn narrow his eyes. "you let niall and louis do more than what you let harry do. even if i give harry permission to do something, if you disapprove of it, then his consent is revoked. how's that fair to him?" liam asks, raising an eyebrow. he watches zayn's jaw clench and obvious irritation.
