I quickly became friends with Mieary. She explained everything to me easier than when Miss Valis tried to.
I only had one thing that was an effect from the chemicals. My eyes. Before they had been a green that seemed like different types of green with my moods. Now, my eyes are an unnatural violet. Mieary told me my eyes always revealed everything about how I was feeling, but didn't show why I was feeling this way.
Mieary said it was probably because my past haunted me. She could tell whenever I missed my family. She distracted me whenever these unwanted emotions came. Mieary became an awesome big sister to me. We loved making fun of the other professors and Miss Valis.
I had no idea why someone awesome like Mieary would be in a place like this. I knew it was a personal reason though, so I never asked. Just like she never asked about all the death stuff, and my family. Sometimes I told her though.
I told her about my mom, and her ability to kill perfectly good food. My dad, and how he would try to feed my mom's cooking to the poor dog or my siblings and I, when my mom wasn't looking. My older brother, challenging everyone at sports, and being a sore loser when I won.
My little baby sister, Lily. I promised myself that I would never cry, but I was thinking about breaking my promise when I whispered Lily's name. Mieary gave me a hug.
"You told me about your family, I think it's only fair if I tell you about mine," Mieary whispered in my ear, still hugging me, "My parents died in a car crash when I was still a baby. I never knew them. My great aunt came and took care of me. Miss Valis. Don't look so shocked. Okay, it's alright to be a little surprised. That's overdoing it. When I was sixteen, a new scientist in training came. He was handsome and smart. I fell in love with him. We dated for two years, since he felt the same way or so I thought," Mieary said, a tear forming in her eye.
"Or so you thought?" I asked, angry some jerk would dare hurt Mieary. Mieary was eighteen, so she was still with this guy, or just suffered a bad break up. I hugged her more tightly.
"Don't be angry. It's not healthy to be angry all the time like you are. He proposed to me yesterday. But I don't think he really loves me. He cares about power and appearances. Not me," Mieary sighed. I looked at her face. In her turquoise eyes, I saw that she had an idea forming in that brilliant mind of hers.
"Your cooking up an evil scheme, aren't you? You know Miss Valis will be quite unimpressed", I said in my best impression of Miss Valis, making sure I did bug eyes, " I love trouble and evil schemes! It's my middle name!" I was rewarded with Mieary's laughter.
"Phoenix Trouble And Evil Schemes Firenza?! PTAESF?! Why not YMCA?! Don't distract me Phoenix!" Mieary said swatting my shoulder. I batted my eye lashes innocently. "Do you wanna hear the plan for not?!"
"Bad grammar! Miss Valis would faint!" I said, pretending to be disgusted, "All be good, I promise!" I said when Mieary knocked me off the couch we were sitting on. "Thank you! This couch is ugly!"
"My plan is," Mieary said, ignoring me, "We leave. I know you hate this place, and I would have left the day after you came, but I saw that you needed me. I found a way that we can escape. It's up to you to make the decision to leave. What's your answer?"
"Yes! Into the world with hot guys! So far, out of the guys I've seen, Professor Rattsen and Professor Reptile are the hottest!" I exclaimed, feeling hope that died when my family did. It seemed that it was obvious to say yes at the time, but later it became my biggest mistake.
