I hummed to myself as I made it through the halls. Christina was curled up on her cot, Tris, Will, and Al surrounding her providing comfort. I took a seat next to Al. he gave me a sad smile. Tia looked up at me.
"Where were you?"
"Giving Eric a peace of my mind."
She snorted.
"You are turning into your brother."
I laugh.
"Oh please, I have grown up with him for 16 years, I am his only match to keep him humble."
"Yet you still manage to be one of the nicest people I know."
I brought a finger to my lips shushing the girl.
"Ssshhh don't tell my secrete."
She rolled her eyes.
"Oh please, everyone loves you, even Eric."
I rose a brow.
"The one that made me climb a wall until my hands bled, Eric?"
Tia snorted.
"And stills lets you mouth off, Eric."
I rolled my eyes.
"He just figured out, that he couldn't shut me up because I didn't fear him or Mr. Brooding."
Tris looked over at me confused.
"Mr. Brooding?"
I rose a brow.
"Sir helps a lot?"
"Are you talking about Four?"
I rolled my eyes at the stiff.
"Yes, I am talking about your boyfriend."
"He is not my boyfriend."
I rose a brow.
"Seems to think highly of you, giving you fighting tips and ways to win a fight."
She shrugged.
"He was just helping me. I mean did you not hear him call me weak moments before?"
I rolled my eyes.
"Insulting you was to help you. Girl you needed to hear it so you would actually listen. I told you the same things, yet he comes over, insults you and you listen to him, but not me."
"He is trained."
"So am I."
She rolled her eyes.
"You are as trained as the rest of us."
"Actually she is more trained then the rest of us, our dad taught us to fight back in Candor."
I looked over my shoulder to where my brother was leaning against a piller. Tris looked at him curious look in her eyes.
"Why did he teach you to fight?"
Before he could answer I jumped in rather not talk about my past with everyone in the room to listen in on.
"Stuff. Stuff happened."
"Hayes!"
My brother and I both turned to the entrance where Max was standing, observing the group. He sighed like he forgot there were two of us.
"Skylar."
I looked at my friends before moving to where the Dauntless leader stood.
"You wont be going on the field trip today."
I furrowed my brows together.
"Why not? Sir."
He sighed, looking over his shoulder.
"Treatment."
A chill ran down my spine hating that word. I nodded my head.
"When?"
"Now."
Max didn't wait for my response as he turned leading me through the halls until we came to a lab room, similar to Erudite labs I am so used to seeing. Jeanine stood at the front, looking over a series of monitors. She turned at the sound of the automatic doors opening while the other Erudite continued working. It was considerably brighter in the area, still concrete but more artificial lights were strung around the room.
"Skylar, I am sorry to pull you from your training but we need..."
"My blood, I know the drill."
Jeanine shook her head.
"We actually need spinal fluid."
I looked at her confused.
"Spinal fluid?"
She nodded.
"We have come up with a serum that should allow us to control divergence but we need one more piece of the puzzle to make it work."
"My spinal fluid? How did you come up with that?"
"You see your blood wasn't quite strong enough to make a divergent loose control but strong enough for the general population. Then we thought was other bodily fluid would be difficult but easy enough to access to create a serum strong enough to control the uncontrollable."
I shook my head.
"That makes no sense."
"The science, the facts don't lie."
I sigh.
"Where do you want me?"
She pointed to a small room. A mirror staired back at me.
"One way window, for emergencies. We don't want our cure being hurt."
"No just proded."
I walked to the room. Max studying me carefully. I turned back to the leader when I made it to the door way.
"I would appreciate it if you kept my secrete for a little longer. I...I don't like the attention of...this."
The man nodded before I entered the room. As normal, people in blue stood waiting for me. Packs of water stood in the corner. In the center was a chair, with the head rest having a whole in the center so I could relax and breath during the process. The people gestured for me to lay on the chair which I layed on my stomach alining my face to the opening. I felt them move my hair so it was off my neck. I closed my eyes trying to will myself to relax but I hated needles. I got used to them but it didn't mean I liked them. I felt a pinch in my neck and a long needle seemed to stretch up into my brain making me wince in discomfort then I felt the familiar sensation as they drained me. I felt my brain go foggy as I felt myself go limp with exhaustion.
