The night before, we stayed up too late. It was a good night. A good memory filled with laughs but now, now we go to a new beginning. Peter and I are dressed in our best just as all others that will be choosing today. The arena was filled of everyone from different factions. As we walked in Jeanine was quick to find our family.
"Elizabeth, how are you?"
My mother smiled at the blonde haired women but didn't actually answer he as she turned to the two of us.
"Peter, Skylar, big day today."
I nodded. She moved forward giving me a hug.
"I am glad to see you doing well, Skylar. The ceremony is about to start why don't you all find your seats."
I stiffly hugged her back and let go as my family shifted to our faction area. As we went to our area Jeanine went on stage.
"The faction system is a living being composed of cells. All of you, and the only way it can survive and thrive is for each of you to claim your rightful place. The future belongs to those who know where they belong."
After speaking her part, Jeanine walked back to her section and Marcus took her place on the stage.
"When we leave this room, you will no longer be dependents, but full fledge members of our society. Faction before blood."
We repeated the words. I looked down guilty. Peter grabbed my hand giving it a comforting squeeze he leaned in so he could whisper.
"Everything will be ok."
I smiled as he straightened his posture. Marcus waited a pause before starting the ceremony with names beginning in Z.
"Johnathan Zingler."
A boy from Erudite strided forward in a nice tux with full confidence. He picked up the knife we were ment to use to slice our palm and allow a drop of blood land in a bowl with elements to represent different factions. Glass for Candor, Water for Erudite, Stones for Abnegation, Hot Coals for Dauntless and Soil for Amity. The boy took his fist holding it over water allowing his blood hit the water. Marcus looked up anouncing his choice for those that couldn't see.
"Erudite. Jasmine Yates."
A boy in black storde up in confidence.
"Dauntless." Loud cheers echoed around the arena making me smile at what was awaiting me.
"Morgan Stokes."
A classmate of mine walked up, first from our faction.
"Amity."
A shocked look took over my features. Peter and I exchanged looks, shocked from his choice. He was nice and all but he was quite and focused on helping others. I thought he would go to the stiffs. Sobs from his family came from behind me making guilt wash over my body.
"Claire Sotcha."
Even though the sobs could be heard the ceremony kept going. Another girl from our section got up to go to the front.
"Candor."
My brother leaned into my side.
"Shocker."
I let out a snicker at his sarcasm. The girl was the most truthful blunt person of our class. She was the definition of Candor.
"Sam Robertson."
I watch as a boy from the stiffs strut forward eyes down cassed. I elbowed my brother.
"I bet the stiff goes back to the stiffs."
