HELL OF A MISTAKE

⋇⋆✦⋆⋇ Gina sat between Nancy and Jonathan, her back straight and eyes scanning the area.

She wipes her sweaty palms on her jeans, the sound of rusty springs squeaking and children's squealing hammering into her head.

"It's fifteen past," Nancy says, looking at her watch.

Jonathan nods. "Just give it time."

Nancy's eyes lock on a man a few meters away who is reading the newspaper. "That guy. Right there," she whispers, leaning closer to Jonathan and Gina. "He just talked to himself."

The man notices everyone's stares and sets the paper down, giving the kids a glare.

"It's probably nothing," Gina tries, but the words don't feel right as she says them. It's probably not nothing.

Gina looks around at all the people around the park. They look...placed. Everyone looks evenly spread out; going on a jog, walking the dog, feeding the ducks, they have to be—

No. Definitely not. There wouldn't be that many. She's just looking too far into things. They're just people.

It seems as though Nancy has the same thoughts, since she leans in closer, her voice low. "I think we should go."

Without a word or anything to draw suspicion, the three get up and walk fast, but not too fast to Jonathan's car.

As they cross a bridge, Gina looks over her shoulder. An older man looks as though he's following them, being just far enough away; but still far too close. "I think someone's following us," Gina says, picking up the pace of her strides.

They make it to the car, Jonathan immediately putting the keys into the ignition, but...

The engine stalls.

He tries again.

Nothing.

There's a tap on Nancy's window. It's the newspaper man. "Trouble with your car, miss? I can give you three a lift if you'd like."

Gina watches as the out of place people soon find their place, creating a circle around the car, blocking them in.

The man knocks again. "You sure you don't need that ride?"

⋇⋆✦⋆⋇ They took the bait.

Nancy knew the new phone she bought had someone listening. She led them to the park, leading her, Gina, and Jonathan to the lab.

They're going to get all the evidence they need to destroy Hawkins Lab.

But right now, they just need to play along.
