Captain's Dominion (Raiden Mei X Fem Reader)

Prologue

[Y/n's PoV]

"Why am I here? I wonder..."

All that I could sense in the darkness was the beating of my own heart, as I slowly began to realize that my vision was shrouded by a thick black fog that surrounded me.

"Everything is so empty... So cold..."

How... did it come to this?

I rushed to the bridge, having been alerted by my communicator that an unknown object had breached the defensive barriers and infiltrated the base. I was shocked to find that the intruders are none other than Bronya Zaychik and Raiden Mei.

Mei turns around and steps into the light, my own eyes widen in disbelief.

"It's... you two..."

Mei nods at me with a solemn look of determination.

"Hello, Captain."

"...Is there... something you two need?"

Bronya, who has been quiet this whole time, steps forward. She was about to speak, but Mei holds out her hand to silence her.

"Yes. But first... I have something to say." Mei said and gazed at me.

"I know very well that you are the Captain of our branch of Schicksal. That means that you have your duties and responsibilities to this organisation. No one could even dream of denying that. I'm sure you will take that to the grave... However, it is also important to me that you hear my words out. So, I ask that you please listen to me for a moment...?"

"...What is it?"

Mei just takes a deep breath.

"I'm leaving Schicksal, along with my companion here."

She gestures at Bronya who is still very somber and quiet as though she has not found the need to speak yet.

"...It is a personal choice, so I do not wish to get into the details of why I'm leaving. But it is a choice that I have been preparing for a long time and have been certain of for a while."

"If it's for a while, then why now?" I asked her bluntly.

"The timing... may be sudden, but the process was not," Mei pauses before continuing. "I'm leaving Schicksal, for my own good and the good of those I care for."

"...Mei." I looked at bronya after.

"Bronya, will you let the two of us talk privately?"

Bronya nods, "Yes, Captain."

Without further instructions, she leaves the bridge. Now, only me and Mei remain.

"What were you thinking this time?" I asked her almost in irritation.

"It was the right decision for me. You may not understand that now, but you will. Besides, I'm not the only one leaving Schicksal. Bronya is also coming with me."

"Just why?" I kept asking her.

"Why?" Mei was silent for a long time before looking away from me.

"You really don't know, do you..? This organisation, Schicksal. It changed you. You no longer resemble the woman who once led me to fight for what's right. There is no justice left here. It's all been consumed by your obsession with duty and responsibility. You'd rather follow orders than to protect the people you love. The very people who are supposed to mean the world to you."
