Chapter 17: Caution

[Y/n's PoV]

It was early in the morning when I woke up from my sleep and began to prepare for the important meeting that I am supposed to have with Otto at ten sharp.

After the shower, I took a quick reflection at the mirror. My appearance was quite neat overall— my hair was properly styled, makeup was applied cleanly, and my outfit was perfectly coordinated in a manner that I would typically use for formal events.

All good.

I checked my phone before my eyes gazed back at the reflection in the mirror one more time, and there I suddenly saw a reflection of Domi in the mirror which managed to grab my attention.

I turned my head to see if she was actually here behind me, but there was nobody there at all. The whole thing felt a bit odd, and it made me wonder if perhaps she was just playing a trick on me or she could actually show up behind me right now.

I looked at the mirror one more time just to check if she was really there, but when I did, I saw her in the mirror still... She even had a smirk on her face and her hands were on my shoulder as though she was really here with me right now in my room.

"Is... something the matter?"

As soon as I asked her this, she simply continued to smirk yet I could feel that she was gripping it with such force. She then glanced around at the mirror for a brief moment before focusing her attention once more on me.

"You have a meeting with that man later, do you not?"

I nodded.

"Yes, you may have overheard our conversation already last night."

"...Yeah, but I suggest that you wouldn't go to that meeting with him."

I only arched a brow. Is she concerned?

"Oh?"

Domi smirks merely grew wide before she leaned forward, getting a bit closer to me as she began to give a slightly ominous warning.

"Because, Captain... he has that strange aura I sense in him last night, and I think he has something very dangerous planned that he'll tell you if you go to that meeting with him... so, you would be better off avoiding it."

"The only thing that can save you at this point is me and by keeping away from him... and trust me, you REALLY don't want him to get closer to you."

Now this is new.

However I only shook my head.

"There's no need to feel hostile towards him. He is the leader of Schicksal after all. So all the commands came from him and I clearly couldn't disobey him even if he had bad intentions or not."

Domi merely stayed silent for a few moments as she heard my decision to stay true to my duties despite the warnings she tried to give to me.

She just narrowed her eyes as she gave out a cold expression.

"Tsk, tsk, you think I don't know his authority? The fact that he is the leader of Schicksal doesn't mean he couldn't be a traitor to Humanity in secret, you know."

"Besides, isn't today the day you'll be secretly meet with Mei also? A date perhaps?"

"…."

Domi then leaned back and straightened out as she saw my reluctance or lack of confirmation when it came to her question about my meeting with Mei later today. She then sighed softly before she asked another question with a slight frown on her face.

"So, you're still not considering the option of just ditching your duties and just head out with Mei later as of right now?"

"It's not a date." I replied dismissively.

"Mei just... wanted to discuss something with me since I'm now out of the infirmary. Moreover, our planned time was tonight so I still have a lot of time to prepare after my meeting with Otto."

"Oh really?~"

The Herrscher decided to just roll with it as she sighed and gave a more neutral expression. Besides whether I'm denying it or vice versa, she was aware which was the real response. She then nodded for a bit before replying.

"Alright then, but just be cautious with your meeting with Otto. That's all I have to warn you about... If danger arises, don't be afraid to place your trust in me and call out my name to let me take over your body."

I only hummed before fixing my suit one more time.

"...."

She just stayed silent for another moment as I gave one last check to make sure my appearance was neat and proper before the meeting with Otto. Perhaps she thought that I was quite stubborn about keeping my obligations in line. But she couldn't really blame me for not abandoning them just because of a warning that she gave.

"Alright, that should be enough time to prepare. Now, you may want to head out, as there should only be a few minutes left until your meeting with Otto."

Domi then decided to drop the subject as her lips slightly curved into a small, almost invisible smile to show a hint of amusement.

I had no choice but to move on regardless since it's already almost time for my meeting. After I was finally fully prepared, I proceeded to move outside to go to the Overseer's office.
