Chapter 11: Taking Over

Mei took a deep breath before charging forward and lunged at the beasts that were approaching us while making sure to quickly eliminate each one with a clean, precise swing from her sword that was still in her hand.

It only took a few dozen shots for me as well to take down the small group of beasts with the final round piercing through the beast in front and causing it to explode in blue light.

We were just barely finishing up eliminating the small group of beasts before we noticed that there was another one taking its place.

It seemed as if we had only managed to scratch the surface when it came to the beasts that were in the area and it would take more than what we had right now to completely eliminate their presence here.

I continued firing at the group of beasts that continued to grow larger and larger by each bullet I shot. I couldn't help but find myself overwhelmed with the numbers of opponents that we had to face right now despite being well familiar with their abilities.

Urk...

I suddenly winced and stopped shooting as the pain I felt before I lost consciousness in the forest came back.

I then saw Mei raising an eyebrow upon noticing my sudden pause; not wanting to waste even a moment, she slashed the beasts that were getting a bit too close to my position and turned to me with concern in her eyes.

"Captain, are you alright..?"

"I'm... fine... Focus on the battlefield." I ordered.

I know that Mei wasn't in the mood to push the issue any further as she nodded slightly and focused her attention on the large horde of beasts that we now noticed that are beginning to swarm my position.

She slashed away at the beasts with precise precision, quickly dispatching them one by one before she suddenly caught onto another one rapidly approaching me from my blind spot.

"Behind you, Captain!"

Before I could even defend myself, Mei's fast reflexes were the only reason why I was not hit with a potentially lethal attack from the beast that had attacked me from behind. She was quickly able to take it by surprise and utilize her power as the Herrscher of Thunder to eliminate its existence with a single attack.

It seemed as if it was only a matter of time now before we managed to push through this onslaught of beasts and make our way through this challenge that was meant for us to overcome together.

"Captain."

"Don't worry... I'm- ah..?"

Before I could even finish my sentence, I winced again when Mei leaned down and grabbed me by the arm before slowly undressing my top suit.

"W-wait..!"

There, she noticed my body was full of hidden bandages. I could only look away with guilt for hiding my situation from her.

She couldn't help but feel a bit frustrated as she now knew that I wouldn't be able to last much longer in this fight if it kept going at this pace.

"Captain, how did you- why didn't you tell me about your real condition before?" She asked with a bit of irritation in her voice.

"I wanted to help the squad about the situation here earlier. And I wanted to help you fight these beasts too."

Mei just sighed.

"As much as your intentions may have been good, I can't let you put your life in danger like this. I- I just can't..."

"...."

I only stayed silent for a moment before pulling up my suit and tried to steady myself.

"Then... will you eliminate the remaining beasts for me?"

Perhaps that was the exact question that Mei was planning on asking me too but she was caught off-guard at how suddenly straightforward I was being. In a way, this was probably the most effective way I could ask her to help before Mei nodded without much hesitation.

"Yes, I'll take on the rest of the honkai beast for you..."

"Thank you, Mei..."

"There's no need to thank me, Captain..."

Of course, Mei was only doing her duty as her part of being a Valkyrie and didn't feel that any gratitude was needed in this situation, but still... I was quite happy for her to accept my request when it comes to protecting me.

"Nnngh..." I then clutched my chest silently.

"Why are you so eager to go out right now..?" I whispered to myself, hoping the Herrscher of Dominance would answer inside me.

Then, I could hear a small voice echo in my head as Domi answered back to me though her response was one that I couldn't expect.

"Because I was made to be that way, Captain... I was meant to be a tool for destruction, and no matter who I hurt in the process of achieving my goals, it would not matter in the least."

"Tch, and then what?"

I could feel Domi getting impatient realizing that the Herrscher of Dominance wasn't someone who would accept being treated this way so easily.

"And then... I will grant you my full power which will let you use me to the fullest. You don't expect me to waste my energy to help you, do you...?"

"...."

Domi then gave me an annoyed sigh as she waited for my response.

"Come on, you can at least say something back at me. I'm giving you a chance to have what you always wanted here..."

"Besides, I'm a Herrscher, Captain. If I were to anonymously die here in this room, you know it would be a catastrophe- not just you and the people who are in this facility but rather this world would be dead."

"...."

It's... hard to admit, but she's right.

Looking over at Mei, I noticed she's quite struggling to fend off the beasts even with her Herrscher form. Could it be that something is restraining her to use her full power in this room?

Whatever it may be, I wouldn't want to burden her. I must protect her... as the Captain... and her lover.

"Fine, then..."

"...Herrscher of Dominance..."

When I mentioned its name, Mei quickly looked at me and realized what I was about to do.

"Captain, don't..!"

"...I submit to you..." I surrendered as I could hear Domi laugh sadistically inside my head as she took over my body.
