Chapter 14: Talk it Out

[Y/n's PoV]

While chatting briefly, Kiana's phone suddenly rang and the caller was from Mei. She seemed to be rather surprised to see that Mei was already calling her. She then quickly answered the call, raising the phone up to her ear to hear what Mei wanted to tell her right now.

"Kiana, are you with Captain now?

"Yes... I'm with her right now..."

Kiana answered Mei's question while looking at me for a moment as she kept the phone pressed up against her ear and waited to see what else Mei was going to say.

"Perfect timing. Can you... pass the phone to her? I wanted to check how she's doing."

"Sure, one moment!"

Kiana quickly passed the phone over to me, allowing the two of us to be directly talking to one another now rather than going through Kiana as a middleman.

"Mei?"

I could hear Mei's voice on the other side over the phone, as she immediately spoke up once she recognized that it was me who was on the other side now.

"Captain! You're already awake at this time. How are you feeling?"

"I'm fine. I've been unconscious for two days, but other than that I can still move my body freely."

Mei hummed softly as she seemed to have heard positive news. She then replied with a calm tone.

"That's good to hear. I guess Bronya told you about what happened while you were gone already?"

"She updated me about her stay here at St. Freya and Durandal carried me back while you left the facility after that. Though I'm quite curious while my consciousness is away that day, what happened back with you and the Herrscher of Dominance after I let her took over my body?"

There was a brief pause from Mei as she seemed to be taking a moment to recall everything that had happened.

"Hmm... You can say that I was completely unharmed thanks to her. While the Herrscher of Dominance used her energy to let the honkai fight one another, she eliminated them all before she lost control of your body due to your weakened state when she took over and collapsed."

I waited for another sentence to come out over the phone yet nothing. That's it?

"That's... strange... She didn't harm you in some way..?" I asked her.

Mei let out a sigh before she answered my question.

"While the Herrscher of Dominance technically didn't directly harm me, I didn't exactly feel good when she was in control of your body, Captain. Just thinking about it makes me feel really sick."

Mei sounded a bit reluctant, as if she really didn't want to elaborate any further on the matter. I couldn't help but to chuckle quietly over the phone.

"Well Domi has... a unique personality to say the least."

"You can say that again..." She replied, "I could only hear her laughing in a sadistic way while she was using her powers against the beasts into forcing them to submit. It actually felt really eerie, Captain..."

I guess it sounded like she was still a bit disturbed over the whole situation, despite the fact that the incident has already passed by now.

"It seems you're not quite fond of her, I assume?"

"...Not in the slightest. The whole ordeal with the Herrscher of Dominance really unsettled me... she's a bit of a sadistic person just from a few interactions we had, and I definitely don't trust her one bit to tell you the truth."

Mei sounded somewhat resolute with her response as she explained her true thoughts towards Domi right now.

"Well I guess it's normal to have that bitter feeling towards a Herrscher. No offense to you two though."

Mei laughed faintly as she seemed to have caught the last sentence I gave as a joke.

"It's fine, I understand what you mean by that. Besides, that bitter feeling I have for her is completely justified."

"Oh, and Captain, I know this is off topic but I just wanted to say this... I am very sorry for causing you and Kiana to worry over there. I have just been thinking a lot about this over these past few days... and I know you already hate me for the decision I made, but... could I please talk to you personally, once you've fully recovered?"

I stayed silent for a moment before sighing.

"...I understand. You wouldn't ask something like this if it isn't important. I'll update soon once I'm fully recovered."

She let out a soft sigh of relief as she heard my reassurance over the matter.

"Thank you, Captain. I will wait patiently for the day you're fully recovered, and until then I just hope you'll stay well."

"That goes for you too, Mei. I'll give the phone back to Kiana. Until then, stay safe out there."

"I'll do my best."

Mei let out one last soft chuckle, as she quickly gave a short confirmation before I passed the phone back over to Kiana.

"Take good care of our Captain in the meantime, Kiana."

"Of course I will. And you take care of yourself too, Mei-senpai. We'll be waiting for you to get back, so don't worry too much about us."

The moment the phone call had ended as Kiana sighed softly then gently placed the phone down on the bed right next to me.

"I hope she's not pushing herself too much over there, Captain..."

Kiana spoke softly, as she looked very much concerned over Mei's actions from just that brief phone call she got from her just now. It was very clear how much Kiana also cared about Mei when it came to this situation.

I nodded slightly before placing my hand on her head once more.

"Of course, I understand your worries but we need to trust her as well."

She nodded slightly and gave me a soft smile after reassuring her that everything would be okay in the end.

"You're... right, you're right... I guess the best thing we can do right now is to trust her."

Kiana then lifted her other hand up to gently cup my face from which I didn't mind before she spoke again with a soft tone.

"I trust you too, Captain. I believe you'll get back on your feet sooner than later, and until then I'll keep watching over you to make sure those wounds heal properly."

I smiled faintly.

"Then please take good care of me for now, Kiana."

She nodded in determation as she heard my request. I guess she seemed to be quite content with this order.
