Chapter 3: Weakness

[Y/n's PoV]

The idea that I was being considered as a potential vessel shocked me into silence. The thought alone was frightening enough, but I know for a fact that there was nowhere to run.

"Oh, did that strike the wrong nerve? You see, unlike some of the other humans that I've met. You have a really nice aura. It's strong, commanding, determined, and radiant. It's... perfect for a vessel, is it not?~"

I scoffed, "...Tch, who exactly do you take me for?"

"Why, Captain, I take you to be what you have always been- a pawn in this game."

The tone shifted again into a cold and menacing one.

"After all, you're nothing but a mere human, one that can't even fight well on your own. It's why you had other Valkyries to fight for you. So what makes you think I couldn't just take you as my vessel if I really wanted to do so?"

I only stood still as I crossed my arms in irritation, "I would rather die than to do your bidding."

"Oh?~ That is quite... courageous of you to say that... I've never actually met a human with that level of determination before except for... Nevermind- let me ask you this before I go ahead and decide whether or not I should take you as a hostage."

"Is there... anything you would do... to protect the ones that matter most to you?"

"...."

"If the answer to that is a yes... then I have good news for you," she said. "Because if I take you in as my vessel, I will give you the strength that you so desperately lack... not just for yourself, but also for the ones that you hold dear. What do you say to that?"

Tsk, I won't succumb to her manipulative schemes and tactics for I'll stand firm in my principles and integrity even if she attempts to coerce and persuade me with her words and actions.

"Don't try to manipulate me with your tricks, Herrscher of Dominance."

She laughs, "Oh, but I'm not using any tricks this time, Captain. I'm just making you a fair and honest offer."

"I could easily destroy you right now... just like I did to those 1000 individuals. But I'm willing to give you a choice here, an opportunity to actually be able to protect the ones that matter to you. Or do you not love them enough to accept my offer?"

"Or in other words... How much would you do for Mei? How far would you go to protect her?"

...Now she's starting to get on my nerves since it was clear that she's very interested to hear what I would say in response.

"Don't drag her into this." I responded.

"Hmm... But she's the only thing that matters to you, isn't she? The only one that gives your life any meaning."

The voice sounded eerily sincere as it spoke, and yet I was sure that there was an underlying hint of menace and malice behind those words.

"And yet, what have you ever done to protect her? I'm sure you've realized that protecting people isn't really your forte, Captain. But with me..."

"...I would make you strong."

My annoyance and distrust are evident as I scoffed and ridiculed her attempts to influence me and dismiss her methods as ineffective and feeble.

"I don't need your core. I can be my own strength. It is what led me to this day."

However, the voice couldn't help but chuckle at my stubbornness.
