"You too. Please."

I nodded at her and drove off. I could feel the sleep deprivation catching up to me. I couldn't bring myself to sleep, not after what happened.

"You are so precious. You are important."

I mean, it was the bare minimum alcohol, I get it. But what really made her do that in her dazed state?

The banging in my head increased a bit, and I decided to get a coffee.

Whatever it was, let it be. Hold your horses.

But–

No. Don't anticipate anything. Not when things are not clear yet.

Oh, yes. The disk. The other people.

Biren's truth.

Fuck it.

I got so engrossed in the stupid paperwork that I forgot everything else. Honestly, I was glad. I called her.

"Hello?" She picked up at the second ring.

Great!

I mean, who wouldn't after the way you yelled at her?

Come on!

"Hi. What happened?"

Her voice brought that slightest relief.

"Uh, it's Aniruddh's birthday tomorrow, so I will be a little more late than midnight to get back."

It was honestly our ritual. We would sit and drink and talk about shit since we were in boarding school.

"Oh-okay. But don't be too late, make sure to get enough rest." She sighed on the phone.

"Sure, ma'am."

"Also, Sid told me you have seen Guwahati. Then why did you–"

Fuck you, Sid!

"He is lying."

I wish I could lie properly.

"Agastya–"

"Anything else, Megha?"

"YES! When did you get that dress and those earrings? I mean, why?" She must be having this small frown on her face as she spoke. "Tell me how much did you pay?"

"Don't bother. Keep it. Happy birthday!"

"But–"

"Let it be, come on. It's just a dress. Consider it a gift, alright? End of conversation. Anything else?"

"No." She huffed out a breath.

"Okay. Take care."

"You too. Bye." She sighed. I disconnected the call.
