The ring was not fucking there.

Is there no hope?

Am I really fighting a lost battle?

"Hey! Can't you see and drive?"

That sound left as quickly as it fell in my ears. I was driving way too fast. I could see a car coming from the front.

I somehow managed to stop before a collision. But I couldn't stop that guy from cussing at me. I drove off without a word and thankfully, without another thought.

No but how will I get her back?

****

"Piyush, how is Reyank?" I asked him as he gave me my coffee. I have started drinking them a lot more. Even though she came back, I even talked to her the previous evening, it is not helping with the sleep.

"He is alive." Dev joined us.

"No but what got into you that day, major?" Piyush chuckled.

"Yeah! I mean, the poor guy couldn't get to you with more than a couple of punches." Dev took a long sip from his cup.

"Honestly–"

My phone interrupted me. It was Aniruddh. And before I could answer, Sid was calling me as well.

Is everything okay?

I quickly answered the call that was ringing.

"Rai, Megha had an accident near Ward's lake. Amara was there, she called the ambulance. Please go to our General Hospital. I am reaching there as well."

My heart dropped to my stomach.

"Rai, you there?"

"Uh, yes. I will be there."

The loud ringtone of my phone startled me. It was Sid.

"Bhai, I have been trying to call you for so long. Bhabhi had an accident, please come to Shillong General Hospital."

And with that, he cut the call. I downed my coffee in a go and rushed to the bike.

I now know how terrible Sid might have felt whenever he got this call from anyone.

Karma is indeed a bitch.

She was almost hit by a car. The driver who did the deed had come with the ambulance.

"I honked a lot, sir, but the lady just stood staring at the car. I tried to stop but I think I failed." With his voice, I was sure the man could cry any moment. I couldn't really blame him, Aniruddh and I were in uniform.

My brain was not really working. I wanted to go see her. Aniruddh took his mobile number and let him go for the moment. He then told me he would get the CCTVs checked and everything before we took any action against that guy.
