NOW, VALERIE'S EYES DARKENED.
"What the fuck was that," She muttered.
"What?" Steve glanced over at Bucky.
But her eyes remained on his.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Bucky replied shortly.
"I'm not an idiot, do not treat me like one. I saw that."
"Saw what, Valerie?" Steve was beyond confused.
"Steve, go,"
His eyes snapped to Valerie. "What?"
"Just go," She spoke.
The energy in the room shifted immediately. Even Steve picked up that something had just changed in Bucky, but he had no idea what it meant. All he knew was that he couldn't go too far from her, which killed him. He wanted to trust his best friend, but he wouldn't forgive himself if something happened.
Bucky finally sighed. "Go, Steve."
Steve's eyes snapped to Bucky. Her stomach dropped as she realized her suspicions were correct. Steve reluctantly left the room, leaving the two of them to their staring contest from six feet away.
"How long?" She muttered.
"How long what?"
Her eyebrows creased further. "How long have you had your memories back?"
Bucky shook his head. "You're drunk,"
"I may be drunk, but I have never seen things more clearly. Answer my question,"
"You should go to bed,"
She scooted the chair back violently, the chair screeching loudly. He slightly flinched from the sharp sound. She marched over to him as he stayed firmly planted in his spot, ready to brace himself for whatever reaction she was about to have.
"Tell me how long,"
"You need to sleep this off,"
The more he evaded her question, the angrier she got. The alcohol mixed with betrayal created a deep feeling of white, hot anger in her stomach. Steam may as well have been coming out of her ears.
She began to hit his chest, repeating herself. He stayed still, taking the brunt of her anger. He'd let her. After all, he deserved it.
"Tell me!" She yelled, her eyes becoming blurred with tears.
She continued to hit his chest until he finally snapped, taking both her hands in his large one, and pinned them behind her back. He backed her against the fridge, holding her hands constricted in his grasp.
Now, tears began to drip down her blushed cheeks. But, she refused to close them. Instead, she looked up at him through tear-stained lashes in fury. He looked back down at her, the facade completely gone. Complete and utter regret filled his blue orbs.
"How long?" Her voice failing to come above a whisper.
His lips twitched. "They never left,"
If it was possible, she would have sworn her heart just shattered into a million pieces instantaneously. She closed her eyes as the words she feared the most came out of his month. He slowly let go of her hands, anticipating her next move. She looked up at him, anger filling the entirety of her irises. She shoved him off, storming out of the kitchen.
