"THERE IS NO FUCKING WAY ON THIS PLANET,"
Valerie sighed as Tony sternly spoke.
"I figured you might say that," She responded.
"I would sooner let Pepper walk onto 42nd street blind-folded."
"That's a bit dramatic, no?"
"Tony's right, Valerie. There is no way we can let you do that." Sam agreed. "It's too dangerous."
"You guys weren't there," She pleaded. "He's made real progress,"
"He's still the Winter Soldier." Nat shook her head. "Progress or not, he's not the Bucky you know. And being in a glass jar with him would be like handing him a gun and a sticky note on your forehead saying 'shoot'."
"Okay, I think some of you need to see me for an updated eval."
"I understand that you feel--"
"No," Valerie spat. "Don't do that shit with me. That's my line."
"Well, maybe you need a little taste of your own medicine," Nat grinned.
"We can't allow it." Tony said definitively.
"What if I'm armed?"
Sam scoffed. "Have you ever even shot a gun?"
"Pfft." Valerie waved. "I mean, no, but I know it's pretty user-friendly,"
"If it even came down to it, you wouldn't be able to shoot him. Not when you..."
"Fine," Valerie cut off Natasha before she was able to finish her sentence. "What if one of you came in with me?"
"Came in with you where?" Steve walked into the conference room where he had seen the group animately discussing something.
She offered a sheepish smile.
He furrowed his brows at her.
"No," He shook his head.
"Steve--"
"No,"
She crossed her arms.
"Look--not only is it incredibly stupid and dangerous, but if Bucky found out we let you in there he'd be pissed at all of us."
"Bucky might not ever find out if I don't do this." She looked at him with pleading eyes. "Keeping him trapped in that cage is dooming him to being trapped in his own body if I don't try everything I can."
The group exchanged glances.
"He would fight for me if the roles were reversed." She quietly added.
Natasha sighed. "He would,"
"I know I'm on the brink of getting through. I just need to try something bigger." She turned to Tony. "Please,"
Tony tensed his jaw as he looked at her. His hand came up to pinch the bridge of his nose, the soft lines above his eyebrows becoming evident in his stress. Then, he picked his head back up, turning toward Steve.
