VALERIE'S HEAD WAS POUNDING.

Her eyes slowly opened, the rushing pain in her temples causing her to wince. Her heartbeat rattled their ribbed bars, echoing in her ears. Around her lay scattered cans on top of a dirty concrete floor, telling her she must be in some abandoned building. She had no concept of time besides the amount of honking horns outside, telling her it must be rush hour traffic. The room she was in was large, void of any furniture and only a door in the corner. She wondered what kind of building this previously was, guessing an abandoned factory or office. Surrounding her were several large windows, all painted over to cover any light.

As her hands instinctively went to her throbbing forehead, it took her seconds to realize that her hands were bound behind her back. Her feet were tied around the legs of a chair, causing her to panic. She struggled as she tried to pull her hands free, ignoring the burn she was beginning to feel around her wrists.

Just as she went to scream, the door in the corner opened.

Bucky barged through the doors to the common room, earning several surprised looks from the team gathered there.

"How the hell did you get in?" Tony exasperated.

Bucky waved off the question. "Valerie's gone,"

"Gone?" Sam stood up. "The fuck you mean, gone?"

"I went to the store for groceries, came back, and she's gone. She didn't answer her cell, and once I tried tracking her, her phone was still in the apartment."

"You left her alone?!" Wanda spat.

"I wasn't gone for long--"

"I'm sure he's already beat himself up for it," Steve sighed. "We should focus on finding her--"

"--We know exactly where she is."

"Where, Sam?"

"Not a 'where' but a 'with who'," Tony caught on. "MONA has her,"

"Obviously," Wanda rolled her eyes. "They were just waiting for a moment where she was alone,"

"What doesn't make sense is, why wouldn't they just attack you if they knew where you lived?" Steve asked. "They were just waiting?"

"They're smarter than that. They don't want me dead, they want me alive. And they knew the key to getting me was to get her," Bucky sighed. "So, now we wait for them to make that bargain,"

"You're strangely calm," Nat observed.

"Maybe it ain't hit him yet," Sam replied.

"What else am I supposed to do?" Bucky shot back. "Cry? What good is that going to do me right now? I know they have her, they know I know, so any second now they'll show up."

"They don't really have an incentive to wait, time isn't going to make Barnes more likely to turn to their side,"

Wanda rose a brow, "Are you going to?"

"What choice does he have?"

"What we can do is be ready for when they come. They've proven they know we all stay here, it's only a matter of time." Steve spoke.
