WELL, THIS WAS AWKWARD.
Valerie pulled back the comforter on her (thankfully) made bed. She tossed Bucky, who was standing there like he was still expecting her to rescind the offer, a pillow.
"I'm going to change really quick," She retreated into her closet, which was out of his view.
He held the pillow in his hands, still stuck in his spot. It didn't help him knowing she was maybe ten feet away taking her clothes off, but he tried to shake the thought. She came back out in sleep shorts and a big t-shirt, from where, he wasn't sure and tried not to think about it.
"I'm guessing I need to keep my shirt on?" He asked.
"Don't make me regret bringing you here,"
"You sure that isn't already happening?"
She scowled. "Just get in bed,"
He grinned and she just knew he was holding his tongue.
Valerie slipped under the comforter, turning to switch off the small, animal-shaped lamp she had received from Sam. Bucky followed suit, the mattress dipping down as his full weight was inches from her. Why couldn't she have opted for a queen size? She cursed herself.
"Goodnight," He spoke softly.
"Mm,"
The pair both lay flat on their backs, staring at the ceiling in silence. A few moments passed until Valerie finally turned on her side to face him.
"This is weird,"
"Definitely weird," He turned to face her as well.
Now, their faces were only inches from each other's. By now, their eyes had adjusted to the darkness, but only enough to make out the shapes of their faces.
"Let's talk then," She said.
"Okay, talk about what?"
She pulled her face back in shock. "'Talk about what?' Where should I even begin?"
"Well, I wasn't sure what you wanted to cover tonight,"
"How about all of it?"
He made a 'tsk' sound with his teeth. "I don't know if we have enough time for that,"
"Why are you being so nonchalant about all this? You should be begging on your knees to have me back--"
"Will it help if I'm on my knees?"
"I don't even know anymore," She huffed, beginning to turn back over before he reached his hand out and stopped her movement.
"Okay, you're right." He sighed. "I'm sorry. I had hoped that with some time you'd grow an understanding of why I lied to you,"
"I sort of have,"
"But it doesn't make it right. I acted without thinking and then I left. I shouldn't have done that. I'm not good at sticking around because, fuck, I've never had an ounce of stability in my life,"
She blinked. "That was...weirdly introspective of you,"
"I have my moments."
"No more lies," She ordered. "I don't want you hiding anything from me anymore if we're going to do this,"
