VALERIE HEARD NOTHING BUT SILENCE IN HER EARS.

"Valerie," Steve urged, lightly shaking her.

"What?" She shook her head, beginning to feel dizzy.

"Sit down,"

"No, I'm fine standing,"

Sam pursed his lips. "He didn't have a choice,"

"What do you mean, 'he didn't have a choice'?"

"He saw the video," Wanda gently said.

"What video?" Valerie shook her head. "Okay, what the hell is going on?"

"The mission was going fine. We hid for days, waiting for the right time to strike. Then, we did." Steve explained. "Hard."

"But, somehow they captured him. We heard it through our coms system. They threatened you, Valerie," Wanda continued. "Then, we all heard the video,"

"They showed him the video of their members here, in the tower. With you hostage."

Valerie's stomach dropped.

"No,"

"And they said if he went with them, they'd leave you alone." Steve rubbed his forehead. "He didn't even hesitate."

"No one came here," She muttered.

"What?" Tony chimed in.

"No one," She raised her voice. "Came here,"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, they tricked you. Peter and I watched fucking Star Wars and made banana bread and--"

"You mean to tell me," Tony walked towards her. "No one got into this tower. At all."

"Yep," She sighed.

"You've got to be fucking kidding me," Natasha exasperated.

"And we had no idea because we couldn't reach Valerie," Steve added.

"So, he's trapped there," Valerie whispered. "We need to get him back,"

"We're going to,"

"Right now,"

"Val, it's not that simple--"

"Sam, I swear to God, if you put your hand on my shoulder one more time,"

"We'll get him back. But you have to understand," Steve looked down at her somberly. "He didn't hesitate to go,"

She would smile if she didn't feel like her heart was being ripped out of her chest.

"The worst case scenario is they bring the Winter Soldier back," Rhodey spoke. "We're on a time crunch here,"

"That's assuming they know the words. The journal has been destroyed."

"Someone definitely has a copy somewhere, or just memorized them," Natasha shook her head.

"Wait, what words?" Valerie thought aloud.

"There are certain," Steve explained. "Words, that bring back that side of him. Like he's hypnotized,"

"And if they have them, we're fucked." Sam cursed.
