VALERIE ALMOST YELLED.
Bucky sat there, legs slightly spread as he leaned back with an arm on the couch's back, smirking.
Smirking.
"What the fuck are you doing in my apartment?" She gaped.
"Did you have a nice date?" He simply asked.
"I," She was at a loss for words. "How did you even get in here?"
"Please," He waved off. "You look nice,"
His eyes raked over her. Her hair was gently curled, paired with some gold earrings and minimal makeup. He noticed she was wearing lipstick, and he ignored the jealousy he felt toward Cody for getting to enjoy it. She wore a black skirt, and to his surprise, not a cardigan. Tucked in was an oversized light blue button-down, and she somehow managed to make it look good.
"No cardigan tonight?" He added.
"I spilled on it." She put a hand on her hip.
"Where is it?"
She grew increasingly annoyed with the situation. Here she was, standing in front of Bucky like some teenager being grilled for sneaking in past curfew.
"I let Cody borrow it."
"Why?" He sat up straighter.
"He let me use his shirt--why am I answering you right now?"
She crossed the room with deliberate steps, reaching for a glass and filling it with water to steady herself. The quiet hum of the faucet filled the silence, but Bucky's gaze burned hotter than any sound. He said nothing—only dragged the edge of his tongue across his lips as he rose from his chair. The measured pace of his footsteps closed the distance between them, and Valerie's grip on the glass tightened, her breath faltering against her will.
"Did you have a good time?" His voice lowered.
"I had a great time." She said quickly.
"Then where is he?"
He was in front of her now. She took a step back in an attempt to create distance between their bodies.
"He went home."
"Why?" Another step.
"I said I was tired."
"Mm," Bucky's steps made her take another one backward, flinching when she realized she had hit the counter. "If it went so well, then why didn't you invite him in?"
"I don't know."
"See, I think, you don't like him as much as you let on."
"And why's that?"
He was now inches from her, towering over her small frame as she felt the cold counter on her back.
"If you did, you wouldn't have been so hesitant to touch me earlier." He stated.
"Did you consider that I just don't want to touch you?" She tried.
"You don't?" He asked.
"No."
"But, Valerie," He put his hand on the counter, closing the proximity between them. "I want to touch you,"
He looked her up and down again, this time, slowly. "Very badly."
