"I TOLD YOU SO."
Valerie happily told the team in a board meeting. To her satisfaction, they were all in shock that she'd done it. But she never was worried. Okay, maybe she was a little worried at times. At many times. At most times. Bucky had faith in her, though. It's why he allowed her to do it. He knew that if anyone could free him, it would be her. And maybe that's why he was so resistant to her at first. But let's all be honest, he was never going to last.
The pair lay tangled in each other's arms as the sun shone through the large windows of their bedroom. Some time had gone by since Valerie reintegrated Bucky and the Winter Soldier and both of them had requested a leave of absence. After Tony deemed their requests as more than owed, they retreated to Brooklyn. They didn't leave the house much, spending lots of time watching animated movies, playing board games, and catching up on the lifetime where they didn't know each other.
The team finally came to terms with the two of them living off-site, and although they wouldn't admit it, they missed being so up-close to Bucky and Valerie's relationship. To be fair, some of them had a stake in it (literally.)
Bucky and Valerie didn't get officially married—but only because neither of them saw a point. The love they shared transcended any need for formalities. (Can you even imagine either of them with all that attention anyways?) Sam and Natasha did have a bet going of whether they would or not—you can guess who won.
They remained in their cozy Brooklyn apartment, living out their days how they preferred: just the two of them, and always together.
"What?" Valerie giggled as she looked up to meet Bucky's stare. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"I want to remember this moment forever," He spoke softly. "Where we have no where to be, no one chasing us, no threat looming ahead...just you and me,"
"You won't have to remember. It'll just stay like this,"
"Then I want to appreciate the way we are now—and how we got here."
She grinned, pulling him toward her to kiss his lips. "I like that,"
"And to think," He cheekily smirked. "None of it would have ever happened if you weren't the team doctor."
