Soon, we arrived at the hospital. Sir Ryan and I walked in together.
We met Samantha's father, and he handed over an office to Ryan. It was spacious and beautifully designed, with elegant furniture and a calming ambiance. I even had my own desk, which filled me with excitement.
I sat down and began cleaning my desk happily.
A few minutes later, Samantha burst into the office.
"Sir, I shifted your surgery. I don't think that lady has much time," she said, her voice urgent.
Ryan looked at her curiously.
"I think we should start her surgery now. That way, we'll have enough time to address any complications. It seems she has a lot of issues combined," she explained as Ryan walked out alongside her.
"Clara, get her health records," Ryan instructed
My heart sank. That was when I remembered—the health records were missing.
I lowered my head in frustration and watched him leave.
What do I do now? The only place we hadn't searched was Sir Steven's office. Louisa had warned me that going there could be dangerous, but I couldn't ignore my suspicions. Without wasting another second, I dashed out of the office.
I ran to Steven's office and pushed open the door. The room was empty. As I took a step further, I felt a tap on my shoulder. Turning around, I saw Doctor Steven glaring at me.
"Who are you, and what are you doing here?" he demanded.
"We're looking for the health records. We've searched everywhere else. You need to let me check this office," I said boldly.
He crossed his arms, his expression cold. "Aren't you the girl who came in with Ryan? What audacity! Listen, this office has already been searched, and you have no right to go through my things."
He shoved me aside and locked the door. As he slipped the key into his pocket, I grabbed his arm in desperation. The key fell to the ground.
"I suspect you, and I'll make sure this office is searched thoroughly. I'm going to report this to the MD!" I shouted before spinning on my heels and running off.
I hid behind the hallway's corner, my eyes trained on Steven. He pulled out his phone and made a call.
"This won't work. Move to plan B," he said sharply before walking away.
Once he was gone, I hurried back to his office, snatched the keys off the floor, and unlocked the door.
LOUISA'S POV
"Where on earth is Clara?" Ryan asked, glancing at his watch.
"Louisa, you know how Clara is. Why don't you go get the health records?" Samantha suggested.
"What records? They've been missing for months! No one knows where they are. I told Clara to tell you," I said.
Ryan scoffed in disbelief. "What?"
"Sir, what do we do?" Samantha whispered anxiously.
"What do you want to do? Can't you see she's dying? She's fucking dying on me!" Ryan shouted, his voice breaking with frustration.
He pulled out his phone to make a call but, in a fit of anger, smashed it against the table.
The room fell into an uneasy silence, everyone frozen in fear.
CLARA'S POV
I scanned the office until my eyes landed on a black cupboard in the corner. I rushed over and opened it. My heart leapt—the health records were there.
How could Steven be so heartless?
I began sorting through the files, separating the necessary records as quickly as I could. But then I noticed the room getting hotter.
Suddenly, smoke filled the air. I coughed, my chest tightening. Panic surged through me.
What's happening?
I wanted to run, but the thought of Sir Ryan's frustration held me in place. I can't let him down.
I pushed through the choking haze, sorting the files frantically. My vision blurred as flames began to spread, engulfing half the room.
Finally, I gathered all the health records and made my way to the back door, but when I pushed it open, I froze. Fire. Flames surrounded me, blocking every exit.
Tears streamed down my face as fear gripped me.
The cupboards toppled over one another, catching fire instantly. I screamed as the heat pressed in on me.
I fell to the floor, my strength waning. My head spun, and I felt consciousness slipping away.
Sir Ryan... please help me.
RYAN'S POV
A nurse burst into the room, her voice panicked.
"Sir Steven's office is on fire. The flames are too much—everyone is outside."
I stood at the window, my back to her. My mind raced, my thoughts filled with Clara.
What is going through that crazy mind of hers .
She bowed and left, sensing my silence.
I brushed my hair back, turning to look at the dying woman in the hospital bed.
But deep down, I felt something. It was as though someone was calling out to me, desperately.
