A week had elapsed since they departed from that village. Sasuke and Sakura continued their journey, but Sakura found herself struggling with fatigue and sudden waves of tiredness. She often sweated profusely during their walks, causing Sasuke's concern to grow. However, these symptoms were sporadic and didn't lead to significant complications.
"Sasuke kun?" Sakura queried.
"Hn."
"You..." Sakura said, drawing closer to Sasuke, causing him to abruptly halt. She lightly poked Sasuke's cheek, widening his eyes in surprise. Sakura chuckled softly.
"I remember when you used to call me annoying," Sakura pouted, her finger still on Sasuke's cheek.
"Yeah, I remember," Sasuke sighed.
"So, do you still find me annoying?" Sakura frowned, placing her hands on her hips, demanding an answer.
"What? No," Sasuke replied.
"Hmm, I see," Sakura said, walking ahead, leaving Sasuke behind.
Sasuke noticed Sakura's sudden mood swings. Was she unwell? Or had she sustained a head injury? Sasuke pondered as he followed her. The couple arrived at a small village to the north of Konoha, where a commotion seemed to be underway—a fight, perhaps?
Upon hearing a woman's shrill scream, the couple hastened towards the village, discovering Rogue bandit members harassing its inhabitants.
"What are you doing, terrorizing these innocent people?" Sakura frowned, channeling her chakra into her right hand, ready to strike.
"Quiet, woman. What can you po—" the bandit started, but before he could finish, Sakura's powerful punch dislocated his jaw, sending him flying across the village to hit a tree and faint.
Sasuke realized never to provoke Sakura. Witnessing what she did, the other bandits charged at the couple, only to be subdued by Sakura and Sasuke effortlessly.
"Are you alright, ma'am?" Sakura inquired, panting, while Sasuke stood by her side. The woman who had been attacked thanked them profusely.
"It's... fine," Sakura managed before fainting from exhaustion, but Sasuke caught her before she could fall. The woman they saved insisted on aiding Sakura, leading her to her home along with some elderly women to attend to her.
Sasuke maintained his calm demeanor, but his eyes portrayed his anxiety and worry for Sakura. An hour later, the woman emerged from her house, and Sasuke hurriedly asked about Sakura's condition.
"How is Sakura—?" Sasuke inquired anxiously.
"She's fine, just resting. She fainted from exhaustion," the woman reassured him
"Seriously what were you thinking young man? Letting a pregnant woman fight like that?"
Sasuke was taken aback by the revelation.
"Pregnant woman...?"
Soon, the other ladies left the house, leaving Sakura alone inside. Sasuke saw this as the perfect opportunity to check on her. Sakura lay on the bed, still unconscious. Sasuke approached her, and as Sakura realized his presence, she smiled faintly.
"Don't worry, Sasuke-kun, I just fainted from fatigue like last time—"
"You're pregnant," Sasuke uttered slowly.
"I-I'm pregnant?" Sakura's eyes widened as she connected the dots, tears welling up. Sasuke hugged her warmly, realizing he was going to be a father. They both shed tears of happiness.
"Anata... you're going to be a father," Sakura said, chuckling.
"Thank you," Sasuke said, wiping his tears, still embracing her.
"For what, silly?" Sakura laughed, closing her eyes.
"For making me a father," Sasuke said, his voice brimming with joy.
"You don't have to thank me for that," Sakura pouted, bursting into laughter.
They sat together on the bed, holding hands tightly, overwhelmed with the responsibility of impending parenthood. Sasuke, noticing Sakura's expression, expressed his feelings.
"Sakura," Sasuke uttered softly.
"Yes?" Sakura replied.
"I know I wasn't there for you in the beginning. I neglected your emotions and feelings," Sasuke said, overcome with emotion. Sakura, confused, stood beside him.
"But now that I'm back, I want to be with you," Sasuke said, turning to face Sakura.
"I want to be with you until death," Sasuke declared, holding Sakura's face gently in one hand and grasping her other hand.
"You've shown me what love feels like. I don't want to experience love if it's not with you," Sasuke continued, a faint smile appearing on his face.
"I want you to bear the Uchiha crest on your back, just like our child," Sasuke said, lowering his gaze to meet Sakura's tearful eyes. Sakura hugged him tightly, crying tears of joy. Sasuke wrapped his arms around her.
"Seriously? Proposing to me right after we found out I was pregnant?" Sakura chuckled softly.
"I have to ensure you're my wife so no other man can look at you the way I do," Sasuke mumbled to himself, blushing.
"Hmm? What was that, anata?" Sakura pouted, tilting her head.
"I... will tell you later... my love," Sasuke said, releasing Sakura from his embrace poking her head.
