After resting in the village for a few hours, the couple decided to resume their travels, but it seemed Sakura was troubled by something. Sasuke noticed the unease in Sakura's face and inquired,
"Are you okay? Do you want to rest for a while?" Clearly worried about his wife.
"Sasuke-kun..."
No 'anata'? Sasuke thought to himself.
"Y-you're not going to send me back to the village because I'm pregnant, right?" Sakura asked, her eyes welling up with tears as she fought to hold them back.
It was normal for her to get emotional over small things. Pregnancy does many things, including playing with a woman's hormones and mood.
Sasuke gently caressed near Sakura's eyes, trying to wipe away the tear that was about to fall.
"No, it'd be far too dangerous," Sasuke said as he sighed.
"So you'd send me back to Konoha if it weren't dangerous?" Sakura asked, pouting.
"Sakura..." Sasuke frowned faintly. But Sakura did not reply as more tears welled up in her eyes.
"You're behaving like a child," Sasuke said as he closed his eyes. He regretted that decision later.
Upon hearing Sasuke's words, Sakura felt a surge of anger. Sakura swiftly removed Sasuke's hand from her cheeks and remained silent. Sasuke was confused by what was happening, but he just thought she was tired, so he didn't press further.
The couple had been traveling for five hours now and decided to take a break at a small tea shop owned by a young lady around Sasuke's age. She and her boyfriend owned the tea shop.
"Welcome, sir. What would you two like?" the young lady asked.
"I'll get onigiri and warm water," Sasuke said as he glared back at Sakura, asking her what she wanted. But she didn't reply for a whole minute, creating an awkward atmosphere between the waitress and the couple.
"I'll have miso soup and water," Sakura said quietly, with no emotion.
Sasuke was concerned about Sakura's behavior. The waitress then went back to the kitchen to inform her boyfriend, who was the cook and owner of the restaurant, to make warm miso soup and an onigiri.
The couple sat on one of the benches in the shop but didn't utter a word. Sakura remained silent, and Sasuke was worried and paranoid about Sakura's behavior. The chef noticed the tension between the couple and called out to Sasuke.
"Ano... mister!" the young man called out to Sasuke. Sasuke slowly walked up to him, where the chef stood. The chef looked around to see if Sakura was watching them; since he realized Sakura wasn't, he decided to inquire.
"Mister, did you perhaps make your wife angry?" the chef whispered. Sasuke was shaken and confused by why the chef would ask such a question.
"No. What is the matter?" Sasuke asked.
"You can clearly see that she's sad and upset about something, mister," the waitress came up to Sasuke and whispered, frustrated. Sasuke was confused about why people were acting so oddly today.
"Think clearly, did you say anything?" the waitress asked, raising an eyebrow, as did her boyfriend.
"I told her that she was acting like a child," Sasuke said as he closed his eyes. A loud gasp from the waitress filled the entire shop. She stared back at Sasuke angrily, and her boyfriend sighed in disappointment.
"Are you dumb? Telling your girlfriend a statement like that?" the waitress asked angrily.
For some reason, Sasuke couldn't seem to shake them off. This couple, it reminded him of Naruto and Hinata. If they were with him in that situation, they would've acted the same way.
"What?" Sasuke scoffed.
"She thought I was going to send her back to the village because she's pregnant, but of course, I wouldn't do that," Sasuke said, leaving the couple even more shocked.
"YOU. SAID THAT TO A PREGNANT WOMAN!?" the lady whispered loud, clearly angry at Sasuke's actions. Once again, her boyfriend had to calm her down.
"Mister, you cannot be saying things like that," the young man said calmly.
"To a pregnant woman too!" the lady added on.
"The reason why she asked that was probably because she was worried that you'd actually leave her all alone. Do you often stay away from home?" the young man asked.
"Yes," Sasuke replied.
"That would explain her paranoia," the young man replied. Sasuke's eyes widened in realization. He realized that he had once again hurt Sakura with his words.
"Your order is ready!" the waitress yelled, giving Sasuke the tray of food and elbowing him, signaling him to go. Sasuke slowly carried the tray to the table and sat next to Sakura.
Sakura ignored his presence and thanked for the food. She slowly carried the bowl of miso in her palm and drank it. Sasuke watched her closely drink the miso soup. This action struck Sakura's nerve.
"What are you doing?" Sakura asked, annoyed.
"Nothing," Sasuke turned his head, facing down.
"I'm sorry," Sasuke uttered. Sakura's eyes slowly glanced at Sasuke, who seemed upset.
"It's okay, after all, I am to blame," Sakura chuckled softly as she put down the bowl.
"It's my fault that I am worried about you barely coming home to me. And now that you're here, and now that I'm pregnant, you're probably thinking this is a great time to ditch me off, send me back to Konoha so you can go back on your journey to cheat on my wife with another woman so you—so you can..."
Sakura blurted out all these words at once, leaving her panting at the end on the verge of tears. Sasuke couldn't process all this information that Sakura had just given him in a split second, so he decided to decode it one by one and inquire.
"First of all, I'm not leaving you to get a new girlfriend. And how do you know that it's a daughter and not a son?" Sasuke sighed. Sakura let out tears just by looking at Sasuke. Sasuke sighed once more before hugging her deeply.
"It's fine, tell me what's on your mind. I'm here," Sasuke said while Sakura was in his arms.
"I'm scared you'll leave me..."
"What if you'll find another woman prettier than me?" Sakura said, pouting.
"I don't want my daughter t-to seek you out and find you and kill you," Sakura randomly said. Sasuke's eyes twitched slightly.
"Sigh... you think I only love you for your beauty?" Sasuke said, releasing her from his arms to see Sakura's childlike face, immersed in tears and with a frown.
"I love you for that childish behavior of yours," Sasuke poked Sakura's cheek, making her all flustered.
"The way you think I'll simply leave you for another woman, the way you think I'll let you stay all alone in Konoha. All of your thoughts, they're childish. You know my heart remains with you," Sasuke said as he faintly smiled at Sakura, leaving her pouting.
"Y-you would though, you're still handsome," Sakura said. Sasuke chuckled, listening to Sakura's statement.
"See?" Sasuke chuckled softly.
"See what!?" Sakura asked in frustration.
"That's what I love you for," Sasuke's eyes softened as his eyes met Sakura's emerald eyes. The couple left the shop happily. In order to thank the couple that helped Sasuke at the restaurant, he left a little gift back for them.
"Thank you,
- Sasuke Uchiha" he left behind a note with a small badge of the Uchiha symbol, showing his gratitude.
