"And where were you, mister?" Sakura asked, frowning at her husband. Sweat trickled down Sasuke's forehead as he gulped, glancing at the clock ticking away in Orochimaru's office. His eyes locked on the clock, watching it inch towards midnight.
"What?" Sakura said, noticing her husband's fixation on the clock. As soon as the clock struck 12:00 AM, Sasuke pulled Sakura close, pressing his lips to hers in a passionate kiss. Overwhelmed, Sakura's eyes widened in shock. When Sasuke finally let her go, he held her face firmly, staring into her emerald eyes.
"Sakura," Sasuke whispered, their eyes meeting.
"I... I'm not good with words," Sasuke blurted out as Sakura tilted her head in confusion.
"In fact, I've always pushed people away, including you. I did it because I was afraid of losing you and falling into darkness again. But now, I'm not scared. I want you with me. I want to watch our daughter grow up and come home to us after her missions. I want to eat the food you cook and have you as my home, a place I can always come back to and rest in." Despite his usual awkwardness, Sasuke managed to express his feelings eloquently. Sakura smiled warmly at him.
"I... don't have anything to give you," Sasuke said as he stood, with Sakura following him, facing each other. He lowered his gaze, looking at her radiant face, smiling with rosy cheeks.
"But I will offer my life to protect you and our daughter," Sasuke said, holding her hand.
"Will you marry me?" he asked nervously. A tear rolled down Sakura's cheek as she chuckled.
"Yes," she replied, pulling him in for another kiss. After they parted, she laughed.
"Getting married in your master's hideout, you must be the chosen one, anata," Sakura chuckled, rubbing her husband's head as Sasuke pouted.
"Well, it's wedding vows time," Sakura said, grabbing his arm and leading him outside the hideout. Sasuke, confused, remained silent and followed her. They found themselves on top of a cliff overlooking a glorious lake reflecting the supermoon, with a solitary bench nearby.
"Do you know the wedding vows?" Sakura asked, holding his hand firmly.
"This is my first time getting married," Sasuke whispered, making Sakura burst into laughter.
"Okay, okay, I got this. I was a bridesmaid at Ino's wedding, no biggie," Sakura said, exhaling sharply to pause her laughter.
"I, Sakura Haruno, take you to be my husband—"
"But we're already husband and wife—"
"Shh! It's the custom, go along with it," Sakura frowned as she continued.
"—to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part," Sakura finished with a bright smile.
"I, Uchiha Sasuke, take you to be my wife. To have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part," Sasuke said, slowly pulling her in for a kiss as the moonlight blessed them.
"I don't remember telling you to kiss the bride," Sakura scoffed, wrapping her arms around his shoulders.
"You were already mine to start with," Sasuke said cheekily.
"Sakura," Sasuke said, looking into her eyes, "when we go home, do you want an actual wedding?"
"Hmm..." Sakura stared at the sky, thinking.
"To me, this is more than enough," she said, chuckling.
"But it'd be nice to have a small wedding with our close friends at the Uchiha Naka Shrine." Sasuke was shocked. How did she know about the Naka Shrine? It held deep meaning for the Uchiha clan, a place for prayers before missions or significant events.
"Said like a true Uchiha," Sasuke said, laughing and gently caressing her cheek.
"What do you think of that, huh, Sarada?" Sakura said, rubbing her belly.
"Isn't it about time Mama and Papa become an official married couple?" To her surprise, a little kick from Sarada made them burst into laughter. The couple shared their happiness under the bright, beaming moon.
"Oh," Sasuke paused, reaching into his coat to pull out the roses and hand them to his wife.
"Happy birthday, Sakura," he said with a smile. Sakura's face flushed immediately.
"W-what's all this?" Sakura asked, admiring the roses.
"Ino gave these to you, didn't she?" she said, catching Sasuke off guard.
"How did you know?" Sasuke asked, gulping.
"I know you very well, anata," Sakura said, poking his cheek.
