Hope POV:
Davina wanted to go first, knowing her mother was extremely devoted to her coven. Davina had invited me to her house after school, her mother agreed to meet for coffee. Once we sat down with our cups, I smelled herbs. Fake sipping it is. I put one hand on my knee rubbing circles counterclockwise, the effect was instantaneous as she was instantly calmer.
"Davina has spoke of the beauty in your power. I was intrigued by her explanation. You made time stand still; made yourself ill but you still pulled off impressive magic for someone so young." She praised. "That's too kind of you, the ancestors approved of us practicing magic together. They've been rather insistent on us joining a coven." I responded.
"Well that..." she was about to deny it but I put more effort in my magic and she calmed down, "that would work." She answered. "Oh that is just wonderful, I'll let you share the good news with Davina." I told her, standing up. "Davina I'll be going, see you soon!" I called to her upstairs.
3 days later
I had dealt with the others girls parents in a similar matter. I had sent Henrik to siphon Celeste's resting spot, removing the body jumping spell. Sabine was the one to approach me at Rousseau's about this new coven I was making. "I know that you are new to the area, and that you haven't had a coven before; but you can't just take from the French Quarter Coven." She said heatedly.
"Hello to you to Sabine, it's great to see you. Me? Oh my day is going alright, thanks for asking. I'm not taking anyone from any coven. We are young witches making our own circle, inside the French Quarter Coven. For some reason the ancestors want it, if you have a problem take it up with them." I responded just as angrily.
"You can't just break the rules and tell us to our face that you aren't breaking the rules. Don't make me take this up with Agnes." She said. "That sounds like a threat, don't forget I'm new to town, I've learned about all of you. What have you learned of me?" I asked her darkly. She couldn't respond, she had nothing to say. She left abruptly, Sophie and Jane-Anne came to check on me.
"Are you ok? Sabine can be kind of intense sometimes." "What was her deal?" Jane asked first then Sophie quickly followed. "Yes, I'm alright. She was angry with me for forming a small Coven within the French Quarter Coven. What can't she understand that young people need young people to relate to. The ancestors just want us to do this. Who are we to deny them?" I replied to the both of them. Neither responded, just nodded along.
When I made it back home, Henrik surprised me with a beautiful green, deep V-neck spaghetti strap dress and a ring. "What's all this? Beautiful dress!" I told him, pouring us drinks. "We were invited to the Abattoir, the dress is for the fundraiser. The ring looks like a daylight ring but operates as a disguise, it'll gently change your features so that our supernatural crowds don't run together." He explained.
"This is a risky play, we will have to go by different names in case the witches are there. We won't be witches tonight, no spells no siphoning, only vampires once the fundraiser is over." I responded. "Do you have a tux and a disguise planned?" I asked. He pointed to the table and a perfect tux was laid out. "Let's do this then, what will your name be?" I asked. "Henry Marshall, your cousin." He responded. "That works, I'll be Andrea Marshall." I said.
4 hours later
We walked into the Compound, there was easily a hundred and fifty people there. We had our invitations in hand, showing them to Diego. "Welcome, Marshalls. Related to law enforcement?" He snarked. "God no, more mafia and donations." I replied with the same attitude. "I didn't get your first name." He tried to charm me, I smiled leaning in, "And you won't." I told him walking with Henrik further into the Compound.
I grabbed two drinks, from the bar. Leaning in I took a deep breath, not detecting vervain I knew compulsion would be easy tonight. Henrik and I went about introducing ourselves to the community for the next two hours, donating to causes we believed in.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I want to thank you all for coming to the fundraiser. This is a beautiful city, and beautiful cities need funding to stay afloat. Please spend the next twenty or so minutes drinking and exiting, many of my people need their rest to do the hard work for the city." Marcel said to his guests. We stayed at the bar, waiting for the after party feast. I put my ring on so that I don't have to bite people.
The gentle lights turned to red and white strobe lights, music started playing louder. Drunk humans poured into the Compound. "Welcome my friends, let's party!" Marcel called out. Dancing and drinking went on for about half an hour before the feeding began.
Henrik and I had our first joint experience of feeding from the vein together. It was familiar, like when Dad helped me transform the first time. I smelled a young untriggered wolf, lying half-dead unconscious. I picked him and fed him some blood. "Go to Bourbon street stay in the lights, leave with nobody." I compelled him.
As the boy left the Compound, the other night walkers were feeding the humans a little blood, compelling them and sending them on their way. Marcel appeared in front of me, I steadied my heartbeat. "You compelled him in a very specific way, why is that?" He asked. "I didn't want to share him, he has my favorite blood type, and it's warm." I responded keeping my heart steady. He just laughed and walked off.
While he was laughing with Thierry and Diego, I hugged Henrik so that I could whisper without Marcel hearing. "We need to stop in a hotel, get some clothes and get out of our disguises." He nodded and we separated. We took a couple more shots of whiskey before heading off. We could feel Marcel's boys watching us. As we walked in we stole a set of luggage one for each of us.
Once changed, we pocketed our rings. As we left the hotel, trying to act inconspicuous, we saw the night walkers looking about but not at us. I went back to Bourbon Street finding the young wolf, "Come with me." I compelled him, walking past him. We walked into the mansion where it was safe. I dropped the compulsion, "Where am I?" He asked looking about frantically.
"You are safe, we are in the Quarter, on Bourbon Street. I am Hope from the Crescent Wolf and North East Atlantic Packs." I told the young stranger. "Wolf packs? I'm Theo. Werewolves are real?" He asked in shock. I knew I was going to have to explain things.
"I'm not sure if you are aware of your families history or not, but you are an untriggered werewolf. If you kill someone by accident or on purpose you will trigger your wolf side. You will be forced to transition into a wolf on every full moon." I shared. He looked at me incredulously. I formed my hand into a claw. "Theo, how old are you? Do you have any family in the area?" Henrik asked him.
"No I'm an orphan. I'm sixteen, I came here for the music." He said looking down, taking in all the information. "Well there's two choices, you stay here with us getting homeschooled or you live out in the bayou with the other wolves." I told him. "If it's all the same, I'd prefer to stay here." He said a little shyly.
"I'm going to make you a couple things. A new identity for one. Why don't you go upstairs, two doors on the left and get some rest. We will help you decorate it in time." I told him. "Thank you, I've been bounced in and out of the foster care system. You are actively saving my life." He told me and hugged me before heading up to bed.
