Hope POV:
The hostility between the vampires and werewolves in the Quarter was taking a bloody turn. It was hard not to get involved, knowing my extended family is being slaughtered. I may not be able to directly fight for the wolves but I can help even the odds. I made my way out into the bayou with my backpack.
I hung it on a tree branch before turning into my white wolf, I ran for a little while, checked the grounds for vampires. Once sure the area was clear I let out a deep howl, calling everyone to me. I turned back to my human form, making necklaces for all the wolves and Eve. I could hear her hiding behind a tree and the wolves trying to stay within hearing range.
"I am Hope of the Crescent and North East Atlantic packs. I come from Virginia to help. I know that everyone is stuck in wolf form everyday outside of the full moon. I have necklaces that will counteract the spell that was placed on you, it'll also make you more durable and able to bear fangs outside of the full moon." I explained loud enough for everyone to hear me.
"Do you have a Crescent birthmark?" Eve asked from behind me. I didn't bother responding, just moving my shirt on my shoulder. "You should burn it, it's not safe to bear that mark in New Orleans." She told me. "The vampires should fear me. I will be building tenements for everyone." I told her flashing my eyes, passing her a necklace.
When the wolves saw that Eve had taken the necklace they all slowly came closer, laying down so I could put the necklaces on them. I made large amounts of sweatpants and hoodies for everyone until they could buy their own clothes. I pulled about $100,000 out of the bag for them to start with, and an unlimited debit card out of my backpack.
I made the buildings as I said, many of the pack members thanked me. Some were still a little shellshocked to be on two legs and not four. "If you need things, do not go into the Quarter, I don't care how far away the next city is. You will be killed in the Quarter is that understood." I told everyone standing on a table. "Who do you think you are to tell us what to do?!" A young, angry Oliver shouted at me.
I slowly got off the table, dead eyeing him as I got closer. "I am the Alpha, I'm also the person who is currently giving you a chance at living. These structures are indestructible, the grounds are safely warding off Vampires. Sending them in different directions, getting lost in circles. I am the reason you are on two legs and not four. SHOW SOME RESPECT!" I demanded at the end, flashing my eyes.
"Whatever man, just some witch with freaky eyes." He said pushing me with his shoulder. I grabbed him by his shoulder, putting my foot out and throwing him on the ground. "I can help everyone. You are ruining everyone's chances of me continuing to help." I told him, keeping him down by his chest. "If you want my help, keep this one under control. I demand respect, I'll leave if I don't feel wanted." I told everyone.
Other pack members looked at Oliver like he was a toddler throwing a tantrum. Jackson came forward, "Please, let me see to him. I'm the pack leader, if you want to see him punished let me." He said trying to cool the tension. I released my hold on Oliver, "If he treats me like a threat, I'll be a threat to him." I told Jackson.
"I am capable of great and terrible things. I'm a witch, a vampire and a werewolf. No I will not answer questions; you can take my words as is or not. These necklaces will protect you from any other witchcraft, think of it as my gift to you. You all are my remaining family, see me as the family you never knew you needed. " I told everyone. I sped out of there, letting them process their new living situation.
I returned home covered in mud. "Did you have fun in the Bayou?" Henrik snarked. "I enjoyed myself a great deal, ran as a wolf, put a man-child in his place. A good day as a whole." I responded in the same tone. I took a shower and went to work. It was a slow shift, only the cooks and Jane-Anne in her office.
When I came back home, Henrik had a cup of whiskey ready for me. "Learn anything new today?" He asked. "Not today, maybe I can get closer to Davina and Monique, they should be getting out of school soon." I responded. I drank my whiskey like a shot, and headed back out.
I was waiting in the graveyard, practicing easy magic. I could hear the young witches giggling with each other as they walked in. "Hello girls, want to practice some magic with me?" I asked, looking over my shoulder at them. They looked to each other. "We aren't supposed to practice without our parents or an Elder with us." Monique said looking down.
"Well, I work with your mom and aunt, and I'm older than the two of you. Do you think that could qualify enough as an elder, what do the ancestors say to that?" I asked them. They listened to the buried witches, none spoke of danger, it seemed that the ancestors wanted me to protect these girls.
"They want us to work with you. It seems like it's something more than simple practice to them. I don't know exactly what they want." Monique responded. "Almost like they want us to stay with you, follow your lead." Davina commented, Monique nodded at her words.
"Well, I've always been the protective type. Let's begin." I put my palm face down, and moved it in a circular motion. A pentagram appeared beneath our feet. "Maybe Cassie and Abigail could join us next time." Monique said as she set her stuff down. "They are more than welcome. Everyone should speak to their parents, let them know that the ancestors want you to practice with me." I responded.
We took each other's hands, and when we breathed as one the wind started picking up, thunder rumbled in the sky and then everything was still. "Open your eyes." I told the girls, holding my concentration on the magic we were doing so they wouldn't have to. They looked about in shock, seeing leafs stuck in the air, bugs mid flight. "This is incredible." Davina said, I forced my nose to bleed, just so that when they tell their parents they won't get suspicious.
"Hope, stop your hurting yourself." Monique said worriedly. I acted woozy as I stood up, "I just wanted to show you something nice." I told them before fake passing out. "Hope! Agnes, Sabine! Someone help!" The girls called. "What's going on?" Agnes asked the girls as she rushed to my side. I knew her magic wouldn't take effect so I'll have to listen for motions.
She put her hand over my heart. "Her heart is still beating. What happened?" She asked again. "We were doing magic, the ancestors wanted us to practice with her. It was like the world stood still for a few moments, then she started bleeding a lot. She told us "I just wanted to show you something nice." before she passed out.
Agnes waved her hand over my face, "Renervate." She chanted. I opened my eyes faking the effect and gasping awake. I sat up abruptly, "What happened?" I asked aloud. "You used up too much magic, whatever you did was too much to handle... for now." She answered. "For now?" I asked, laying the confusion on thick.
"As you use your magic more and get older you'll be able to do all kinds of things like you did today. Go home and get some rest." She replied.
As I was leaving the graveyard the girls stopped me with their friends. "We are so glad that you are ok. On another note, we would like to make a covenant with you. The ancestors don't want us to share our magic with the others anymore. Would you come with us on different days and talk to our parents about it?" Davina asked.
I'll have to use magic to make them accept their daughter's wishes. "Pick your days." I told them and continued leaving. Pretending to trust these elder witches is more tiring than it seems.
