"I just wanted to start the year well."

🕊️

"You gotta be kidding me." I wasn't planning on starting the day like this, but the gods are really joking with me.

"Do I look like I'm joking, Maria?" My Aunt crossed her arms.

Today is the day we go back to school. Winter break ended, Christmas passed and it's a new year. I was already angry because I barely rested on this break since we had a quest, but this? I'm pissed now.

Let me update you on things in case you don't know.

Annabeth was kidnapped and forced to hold the sky. Artemis then was also kidnapped and held the sky for Annabeth. Me, Thalia, Grover, Perseus, Bianca and Zoë, went on this quest to rescue both. Unfortunately, Bianca and Zoë didn't make it in the end, Thalia turned a hunter, and Nico—Bianca's brother—ran away from camp. Let's add to it the fact that I got new powers, Annabeth is living in San Francisco and Grover went on his search for the lost god Pan in New Mexico.

Which we can resume on me and Percy being the only ones in New York.

Okay, it was somehow fine. Percy and I have been in the same school since the beginning of August. My Aunt and his mom are friends and trust one another, that's why we are in the same school, so one could take care of us while the other couldn't.

I already accepted this. We have some classes together, my locker is beside his, and my Aunt insists on us walking together. Again, fine. I have to endure him since camp, so I can survive.

I'm not sure he will survive, considering killing him tempting.

But having to wear a uniform to school? That is a confrontation to my persona. No. Nuh uh, I refuse to wear it.

"Maria, put this shit on right now or you won't be going to camp in the summer." Aunt Lina said, pointing to the clothes in my bed.

Going to school was the only time I could go out and show my outfits. I loved to be wearing cool clothes, with cool accessories, and everything else. But now they are forcing this rule of wearing a black and gray checkered skirt, a white button up shirt that had the school name embroidered on the left side, and a red tie. Who uses ties nowadays? I can't be seen with this! My reputation!

"You are going to get late, Percy is already coming to pick you up and you are still in your pajamas. Get moving, kid."

"I didn't ask him to pick me up. I don't want to wear this! It's ugly." I now seem like a little kid throwing a tantrum, but please, understand my side.

"That's it then. No camp when school ends."

"No!"

"Then put. The clothes. On." I snorted and picked the uniform. If I have to use it, I'll make it worth it.

I looked at myself in the mirror. I was using a white sock that went up to my knees, the skirt went to the middle of my tights, the white button up shirt fitted right on my body, the red tie was half hidden by the gray sweater they sell to use during winter, and on my feet was my Mary Janes. I had to compensate with a white bow holding my hair half up, the necklace my Aunt gave me on my birthday, earrings in heart shape and on my makeup.

I put on my mascara, a little bit of blush, an eyeliner made of brown eyeshadow, highlighter on the corner of my eyes and my favorite light pink strawberry lip gloss. I looked cute, but it would be much better if I was wearing normal clothes.

I got out of the room, clicking stop on the radio I had and pausing the music I was listening to.

"I really don't like this." I said as soon as I stepped in the kitchen.
