"Gods, Maria," My father muttered under his breath. "Can't you stay home with your Aunt? Or—"
"Father, we are not doing this again." I tried to keep my voice calm.
"You can't call me out of nowhere and tell me to shut up, Maria." He crossed his arms and I rolled my eyes. "I never told you to shut up, I'm just saying that we talked through this that day at the Cafe and you agreed on letting me come back."
"It's just— My daughter is going into war. Isn't that a reason enough to wanting you here?" He passed his hands through his hair, pulling tight at the ends in the back.
I stopped putting on my earring and turned to look at him. Analyzing his expression one last time, I smiled softly, "I have to go now. I love you very much, and I'll be fine. Trust me."
"Promise me you'll call as soon as it ends," My father whispered, his body shaking with his leg bouncing up and down under the table.
"I promise on the River Styx." I watched his shoulders slump and his body go still. Chills creep up my body with the way he angrily clenched his jaw, eyes darkening even though they were glowing with the sunlight. "I love you, father."
I counted to six in my head when a laugh was heard and my father looked to his right, smiling slightly to the little girl running in his direction. I took advantage of the distraction and ended the call with a wave of my hand.
I didn't know how things would end, but I couldn't let my anxiety get me right now.
I had to pay two golden drachmas to use the phone one of the Hermes kids had snuck in their cabin to call my Aunt and talk to her, but she didn't answered me. I left a message on her voicemail explaining what was going on.
The whole camp rushed to the vans waiting for us by the camp entrance. I kept trying to calm one of my younger siblings, shifting her attention to the piercing I was using. "See, Alice? It's little crystals hanging from the chain. Do you like them? Do you think it goes well with my clothes?" I brushed my bangs out of my eyes, looking down at the girl who played with the crystals.
"You look really pretty." She smiled. "How does the chain go around your waist?" She asked and I showed her how I put it on.
Just like the rest of my siblings, I had gotten ready to die respecting fashion. I was wearing mom jeans with the Playboy symbol painted light pink on the back pocket. I had designed them while in Brazil and finally took the chance to wear it since they were ripped under my butt, showing the back of my thigh. I was using a light pink crop top, it was thin strapped with the front cut in a triangular form, if you get me. On my feet I had my light pink high top converse to go with the rest of the outfit.
My silver hoops were sized medium, and my crystal chain went around my waist, being held on my belly button piercing. My makeup is simply like always and heartstopper circling my arm as a silver rose.
"You want me to do your hair like I did mine?" I asked the seven years old girl and she nodded, smiling happily. I created a hair claw out of mist and adjusted her hair, making a half up spiked hairstyle.
The van stopped in front of the Empire State Building, the building where Olympus was located by the six hundred floor. Getting out of the 'Delphi Strawberry Service' was an excursion of kids, all dressed ready to go to war and each holding a sword with armor. I don't know what people had seen but the Mist probably changed us for a school baseball team.
