"Wake up, Birthday girl!"
That was how I woke up today. With my Aunt happily smiling in the middle of my room with white and light pink balloons floating beside her and a birthday hat on her head.
I sat down still dazed from being sleepy, she put a hat on my head and startled me when the elastic slipped out of her hand and hit my chin. I scratched my eye and didn't even notice when she pulled out my camera, taking a picture of me all messy.
"Parabéns pra você, hey! Nesta data querida, muitas felicidades, muitos anos de vida!" She sang and I smiled, clapping with her.
"Thank you, Tia!"
"I love you so much, my dear." She hugged me and kissed my forehead. "May you have peace, health, judgment in that head of yours, love, happiness..." Aunt Lina kept listing. "May the gods protect you and allow you to have many, many years of life."
"Thank you," "How I love you, Maria!" She gave me another kiss on the top of my head and hugged me tight. "My little princess is turning sixteen, so grown up now."
"I'm not that old, you know."
"I remember having you walking around the apartment wearing the sleep beauty dress, and singing the songs along with the movie." Her voice cracked.
"Tia, don't cry..."
"I'm sorry, I'm fine." She chuckled. "I love you too, Aunt Lina. So much, thank you for everything." I gave her a kiss on the cheek.
"Now I'll go brush my teeth and get ready for our breakfast."
"I'll be waiting!" She smiled and stepped out of my room, closing the door behind her.
I stood up and looked at myself in the mirror, the famous sweet sixteen had finally arrived.
I took a shower and washed my hair, using the oil and body scrub that I normally use with a scent of roses and a moisturizer of the same smell. I put on a beige skirt with a white crop top, the ones the cleavage is squared, with my brown high top Converse. I added three gold necklaces, one like a choker, another in the middle with a small white stone and one longer with a star. I put on medium gold hoops earrings and some rings on both hands. My make up was a light pink eyeshadow with little rhinestones on the side of the eyeliner, my daily mascara and a clear lip gloss.
Annabeth Iris messaged me congratulations and we talked while I got ready. When I was done, she hung up and I stopped the music on the radio, getting my eyeglasses and murmuring 'bracelet' to turn my sword into a bracelet that goes to my upper arm. It was golden with a rose circling my arm.
"Maria?" I heard a voice behind me. Turning around I saw my father through an Iris message. He looked older than last time I talked to him, wearing glasses and his blond hair with some few white hairs in the middle of it. He smiled in a mix of sadness and happiness.
"Dad." Was all I could say.
"How is my birthday girl doing? You look so pretty, so grown up and old, even have a white strand on your head." He said joking but with a 'I know what you did' kind of tone in the back. He smiled and picked up a little girl. "Oi, Ma!" She said,
"Oi, Aurora." I smiled. "I'm fine, dad. Thank you."
"You're turning fifteen, right?" He asked.
"Sixteen," "Oh right, I always mix it up."
Since I was a little girl.
"I really wished you were here, Maria. So we could spend the day together, going out and eating on Burger King." He sighed.
