This night can walk the red carpet to the hall of worst nights ever. Please, applause.
I only laid down to sleep when I was sure that everyone was resting at their beds. I put on my pajamas quietly and gave Silena a kiss on the cheek, making sure she was alright.
Not much later I woke up hearing sobs. Silena was seated on her bed, curled up in the corner crying softly.
I didn't say anything, I just sat beside her and she automatically laid her head on my legs. "I'm, I'm sorry I woke you up," She whispered in between sobs.
It was heartbreaking seeing my sister like that. Silena Beauregard was two years older than me. We had always been close to each other, I could count on her for anything just like I always told her she could count on me. And now she needed someone by her side like never before.
I couldn't say that I related to her pain. Being in another country away from the person I like is nothing compared to them being dead. In my situation, I would turn eighteen and be an adult, making my own decision of coming back. But Silena? There was nothing she could do to get Charles back. "Don't worry, Lena." I whispered, caressing her hair. "You don't need to say sorry."
After a while she fell asleep, tangled in between my legs. Her head resting on my stomach as she hugged my left thigh, my hands going up and down delicately on her back watching her steady breath. I didn't sleep, I stayed awake aware of her movements.
Near four in the morning I heard her quietly calling out for Beckendorf. Rambling that she wanted him back, I concentrated my thoughts on making her feel calm, listening to her whimpers stop until she was asleep again.
The sun started to rise, the sound of the waves making my eyes roll back exhausted. I blinked hard, hearing a snore coming from the other side of the cabin. The kids started to wake up, whispering good morning to me and the others until everyone was awake running around to get ready for breakfast.
In the middle of the agitation, there was me yawning and asking them to let everything be organized because Annabeth would come for cabin inspection. Silena was called in the Big House, telling everyone that if they needed anything they could ask me. I agreed, giving my best smile despite my tiredness.
Charlotte was in the bathroom using the mirror to do her hair, the younger kids were running around playing or crying about something. The others around my age were getting ready or having a conversation about something.
James, a boy around the age of nine, stopped in front of me wearing a yellow jumpsuit and a duck hat. His cheeks were red with anger and eyes widened like he could kill someone. On some other days I would laugh and help him but today I only stared blankly. "Jessica did it again! Tell her to stop it or I'll make her hair green like the nickelodeon slime!" He pointed back at his twin.
"He asked for it! Tell him to stop using my hair oil!" She yelled in the back.
"Maria, do you think I should paint my nails white or that shade of red that is dark but when the sun hits turn into a lighter but not too light red?" I blinked, opening my mouth to answer Olivia but she started to talk again. "Because that boy I told you about from the Apollo cabin really likes red, so— Actually? I should just stick to it. Yeah, thanks!" Then she walked away.
"Jessica! Take it off of me!" James yelled again, stomping his foot on the floor.
"Maria, this perfume or this perfume?" William sprayed two different perfumes in the air so I could smell.
"Drew! I was using the bathroom! Get out!" Charlotte yelled, banging on the door.
I was going insane.
