She lets out a scream, "Yes! Oh my god. Yes!" You smile and slowly getting up again, placing the tags around her neck.

Emily comes rushing through the curtains, "JJ? You ok?" You both smile. "All good. Just having some fun." You say as Emily walks back to her seat and JJ whispers in your ear, "You didn't tell her?"

"I want to do it properly in front of the team. With an actual ring." You smile and she kisses you on the cheek before heading back to her seat.

You head back to your seat and can't stop smiling. But, your smile slowly fades as you remember the case you're about to be thrown into.

"Garcia is on the line. Case details." The team gathers by the table and you make your way over. "Ok, so the husband. Other than his DUI's, his record is clean. He was recently fired from his night shift job at the local warehouse. His wife was successful, a lawyer. She was the main bread winner." This case makes you rethink it all, almost the same case. You hope this'll end differently.

"Pen, has his truck been spotted going through any cameras. If he took a main road, he'd be seen by now." You point out while she types into her computer.

"No, he either didn't leave town or knew where the cameras were." You think about it for a second, "Pen? Does the husband own any property in his name other than the house?"

"Um...let me get on that sweet cheeks. I'll call you back!" Garcia leaves the call and your brain is firing with ideas.

"What are you thinking Y/N?" Hotch asks while your distracted. "Y/N?" You focus on him and say, "Sorry, uh, I was thinking about the town, Charlotte. The husband has lived there for his whole life and his parents were born there. I'm thinking that, if the husband hasn't been seen leaving town, he will be hiding out. Whether that's at his own property or somewhere he used to go as a child."

JJ looks over at you and is shocked at how you piece case clues together. "Ok, so a hide out or a secluded spot?" Hotch says while the ring tone sounds on the computer again.

"Ok, so, the husband owns a cabin on Lake Wylie. It was his parent's, his father gave it to him in his will. One road in and out. But there aren't any houses for at least a mile so it's secluded."

"Which means we won't know if he's there, until we get there." You say with some disappointment. You and the team sit back down in your seats to land, you peek over at JJ smiling and admiring your dog tags. She's giggly and can't stop smiling.

---

"Ok, we should all go to the husband's property. If they are there, we don't know the situation." Hotch says as you all load into the cars.

Emily is driving the car you are in, JJ is sat next to you and Derek is in the front passenger seat. You are looking out the window, the only thing on your mind is that poor kid. JJ's hand holds onto yours and she pulls you back into the happiness that's all over her face.

You smile at her and she smiles back, "I love you", you whisper to her as she puts her head on your shoulder. "I love you too" She whispers back to you as she rubs her thumb over your hand.

"Em? How far is the house out of town?" You ask Emily while trying to see her in the rear-view mirror. "I think Hotch said about 30 minutes. You guys alright back there?" You smile and say, "Yeah, all good. Just tired, you cool if I have a nap?" You watch her in the mirror, she smiles and nods.

You doze off after about 5 minutes, JJ still has her head on your shoulder.

---

The car shaking wakes you up. Driving down a dirt road you ask Emily, "Are we at the cabin?"

She turns around and says, "We're 5 minutes out. Hotch is right behind us." You sit up and JJ lifts her head off your shoulder.

"I'm just going to call Garcia real quick." You say to everyone in the car reaching for your phone. "Hey Pen! Quick question. Is the husband on any medications, or not on any medications? And any registered guns?" You can hear her typing, "Uh, he's currently taking anti-depressants. The prescription started a few weeks after he started night shift. And records show his father owned a revolver. Be careful sweet cheeks." You take a deep breath in and thank Garcia before hanging up the phone.

"He's on anti-depressants. So, he'll have to be talked down before he'll let that child go. And is in possession of his father's revolver." You say while sighing at what is about to come.

The car pulls up about 100 meters from the driveway, Hotch's car pulls up beside you. The team heads to the back of the cars and all put on their vests. You follow and close your eyes for a second to focus yourself.

"Ok, JJ and Y/N. You'll knock. Prentiss and Morgan, you guys go around back. And Reid and I will stay with the cars." Hotch says while everyone moves into position. "Oh and husband's names is Mitchell. The son is Josh."

You nod and lead you and JJ towards the door. "J? You ready?" She nods. You both reach the door, you knock. "Mitchell, are you in there?" You knock again and hear someone yelling.

The door is open so you slowly walk in. Keeping your gun in front of you and making sure JJ is behind you.

"Mitchell? It's Agent Y/L/N, I'm with the FBI." You come around the entrance corner, you see the husband holding on to the son with the revolver in his hand.

"Sir, can you lower the weapon?" He keeps his arm raised and the gun moves towards the son. "Mitchell. Let the kid go, he doesn't have to be involved in this." You keep your gun on him and a tear runs from the son's face.

"I am not lowering my gun until you do." He says while his gun is hovering over the son. "Mitchell, let's talk. You let the kid go, I'll lower this gun with you."

He thinks about it for a second, then he pushes the kid towards you. "J? Take the kid outside." You keep your gun on Mitchell until JJ and the kid reach the door.

"Ok Mitchell, we're both going to lower these guns. No shooting." You watch Mitchell lower his gun and you do the same.

"Can you kick the gun over to me?" You ask the husband but he doesn't.

"Mitchell, look at me. Don't do this to your son. He doesn't want to see you wheeled out ok?" Mitchell slowly lowers his gun but keeps it at his hip.

"I didn't mean to kill her. She got on my nerves." Your blood boils but you have to keep calm. "Mitchell, kick the gun over man. Trust me, your son will be traumatised if he sees you in a bag." Mitchell still keeps his gun at his side.

You pull your comms out of your ear, so the team can't hear what you're about to say.

"Mitchell? Look at me. I have been where your son has been, my father was drunk. He killed my mother. He wasn't in his right mind. He shot himself while holding onto me. Don't do this to your son, he'll never be the same." You hold your breath while telling Mitchell.

A tear rolls down your face, you put your gun on the floor and kick it to the side. "Please, let me take you out of here in cuffs. Don't take everything away from your kid." He places the gun on the floor and you slowly walk over to him.

"I didn't mean to. She just got on my nerves, I was drunk." He says as you pull his hands behind his back. Your face is red and full of tears but you push him towards the door.

"Give your son time, maybe he'll come around." You whisper in his ears while walking through the door. Hotch meets you at the door and takes the husband. Pushing him into one of the squad cars that pulled up.

"J? Where's the kid?" You look at her, she points to the car you came to the house in.
