→We conversed a little, the guy was probably the best man I've ever laid eyes on. I was honestly ready and willing to give it all up for him.
"So then, what is it that you do for a job? You never ended up telling me." Jake brought the conversation back once more, and again, I had to think quickly on the spot.
"I'm a nurse, I treat the wounded, you know, all the sorts." I shrugged, sounding waay too convincing right now.
"Do the wounds you see not scare you?" Jake inquired, clearing his throat as he checked his watch.
"Mmm, no, not really. Although, have you heard of the recent spree of murders?" I turned my head to look at him, and he raised a brow lightly.
"The recent spree of murders?" He looked around, thinking for a moment, "No? Around here?"
"Strange of you to not know of this, basically everybody knows about it." I chuckled, shrugging it off, "It's just a series of murders, super graphic, I've seen the injuries firsthand."
Jake turned his head to look at me for a moment, thinking hard and deeply.
"They allow nurses into the crime scene?" His brows furrowed ever so slightly, but I kept my composure.
"I'm a specialised nurse, I deal with the post mortem kind of things, so, to answer your question - yes. I see all of it." I cleared my throat, damn I was too good at this 'making things up' game, "These murders in particular are rather disturbing."
"How so?" Jake didn't seem a slight bit phased by this morbid conversation.
"The way the murders are executed, it's terrifying how a person can find the heart to do that to someone else. Take ribs out, sow them back up, so much more." I sighed, taking a larger sip of my drink as I reminded myself of the image of the fifteen bodies.
Jake swirled his drink in his glass, lightly humming to himself.
"Do you believe sometimes people deserve to be treated like that?" Jake suddenly posed the question that had me deeping life for a good while.
"Hm, I'm not sure, what could someone have done that's so terrible for them to be treated less than animals." I thought to myself, trying to think of something that would justify that case.
"Would you say betrayal?" Jake suggested, and I thought about it for a short moment.
"That's too petty, someone's doing all of that because they got betrayed? Jesus, I don't even want to imagine what'd happen if they have a disagreement." I shook my head, it was just not right either way.
"Well, sometimes people do have their reasons, Hikari." My name rolled off his tongue in such a satisfying manner that caused me to look over at him, and he did the same.
He looked down at me, an intimate cloud of silence between the two of us.
"What do you do for a living?" I asked him for a change, and he let out a chuckle.
"Me? Mm, how do I say this." He poked his cheek with his tongue for a moment, staring elsewhere. His jaw was so sharp, too sharp even to be real.
This guy could not be real.
"Would the term be businessman? I'm not sure. But for the sake of it, let's just say businessman." Jake answered, and I nodded my head, I can't lie, I expected an answer like that.
"I could tell, you look like you have money." I bluntly told him, and he gave a short laugh.
"I really do hope you come here more often, it's nice to talk to someone like you." Jake lowly spoke, looking at his watch once more.
"Jesus, you're still trying with these compliments?" I rolled my eyes, giving a small smile despite my words.
"I'm serious." Jake checked his watch for the third time, he was probably needing to be somewhere. He looked up at me, "Do you have a ride home?"
I shook my head.
"Was planning to walk it." I shrugged, and Jake just let out a scoff.
"Save yourself the trouble, I'll call a ride for you, he'll come and collect you when he's here, just don't move from this bar." Jake cleared his throat, staring down at me intently, with a thought in mind.
"What a gentlemen, huh." I rolled my eyes at his chivalry, he gave a smirk, and then followed by a brief moment of laughter.
"You're welcome, but anyways, I have somewhere to be." Jake stood up, taking another good look at my face, "I hope we cross paths again, Hikari."
"Likewise, Jake." We exchanged a real sensual moment of eye contact, before he spun around and walked off.
As he walked off, I couldn't help notice but a tattoo on the nape of his neck. I couldn't exactly see what it was, but it was in black ink, and it wasn't a huge tattoo.
Damn, who the hell was that guy? And why do I want to know more about him.
