TW - violence, EDs, abuse
Time skip - 9 months later, this is set after my 2 stand-alone stories, After the Solicitors and Pregnancy. I love the cuteness of them together but feel it needs a bit of angst and I wanted to try and explore a little more about the siblings past and the impact that continues to have on them. Part of it is actually inspired by an event that i experienced in work a week ago and I've put it in here to try and work through my own trauma surrounding it as well. Xx
The last few months have been, eventful, to say the least. With everything coming out about Mia being paid and emotionally blackmailed by Roger to do his bidding and keep Reece away from Autumn and on a short leash, the revelation he had spent 23 years in a relationship with a lesbian and didn't know it, the factvthe only person he had thought he had in his life was literally paid to be there, attempting to take over the nurseries with Autumn and kick their father off the board, Mia getting together with Charlotte, Charlotte trying to give Reece therapy sessions so he could finally tell Marjorie he loves her and deal with his anger and communication issues and a pregnancy scare for him and Marjorie there had not been a dull moment.
It resulted in a lot of arguments between Marjorie and Reece, but a lot of arguments meant a LOT of making up. Given everything the couple had been through, they were definitely stronger than ever. They'd had a couple of quiet weeks recently, time to really enjoy with each other. Quiet romantic dinners at home, since Marjorie had found out about Reeces eating disorder they'd had a lot more nights in with a takeaway or Marjorie would cook. She really wanted him to be comfortable and feel in control of his eating, rather than feeling pressure if they went out. Staying in also meant she didn't have to watch numerous other women try and flirt to steal her gorgeous boyfriend. It was bad enough at work having to watch the single mums (and occasionally dads) try and do that as it was.
This morning started no different to any other. Reece was driving Marjorie and Carly into work. He pulled up in the carpark of Marjories nursery and got out to walk the girls in. As they were walking across the car park they could hear a very angry, raised male voice. "How many times do I have to tell you not to do that?" Reece scanned the carpark and saw the noise was coming from a dad yelling at a little girl about 8 or 9. She was the older sister of one of the nursery kids and just as Reece registered where the yelling was coming from, the yells were punctuated by the sound of a punch. The little girl sent flying yo the floor, hitting her head on the tarmac as she fell. Reece bolted over to the dad and grabbed him by the collar before punching him square in the face 3 times. By the third punch Reece realised he'd knocked the guy out and it was only his strength holding on to the guys collar that was keeping him upright. He let him slide to the floor and turned back to the little girl. Carly was stood to one side looking terrified and Marjorie was on the phone to the emergency services for an ambulance for the girl and the police for dad.
"She was breathing but now she not and now I can't find a pulse anymore." Marjorie was crying as she said this. Reece rushed over to the little girl and took in her appearance for the first time, glasses, dark hair in a ponytail. She looked just like Aut did at that age. Reece froze as he noticed the similarity and had a flashback to when he was just 11 years old. He dropped to his knees and started CPR on the tiny body infront of him. In between rescue breaths, Marjorie and Carly could hear him muttering something about Autumn and staying with him. They grew even more concerned when they could see tears forming in his eyes. Reece never cried. The ambulance arrived quickly and were able to shock the little girl back to life before rushing her to the hospital. Reece was left sat o the floor still mumbling to himself about Autumn. Carly and Marjorie were terrified at this point, they'd never seen Reece like this both from the anger he displayed when he grabbed the dad or now where they just couldn't seem to get through to him. "Carly run in to the office and get Autumn out here now!"
The apprentice sprinted to the office and practically dragged Autumn out to the carpark after her. Autumn was really not impressed at being touched but once she finally managed to understand Carly's high pitched squeals about something being wrong with Reece she ran out after her. When they finally reach Reece, he's sat on the floor with his head in his hands rocking slightly still mumbling. Autumn crouched down next to him. "Big brother." She said to him, not really knowing what to do. By this point Mia and Char had also arrived. Marjorie was filling them in in what had happened as the police were taking the dad away now he had come round again, although he was still slightly dazed. "That's a trauma response, I think he's had a flashback" Mia said looking down at Reece. "What did the girl look like?"
"About 8 or 9, brown hair, glasses. Why?" Marjorie asked.
"He thinks it's Autumn. Marjorie it really isn't my place to tell you what may have brought this on its his but he's going to really need you. Char I would say you should probably go with them too. He may open up to you after the last few months."
Marjorie had found out a little while back that Reece and Char had been having unofficial therapy sessions as Mia had already filled Char in on a lot of Reeces past so he felt a little more comfortable talking to someone who already knew so much. Charlotte was worried by the look on Mias face though. This definitely had something to do with an occurrence neither Mia nor Reece had mentioned before.
