By the way Reece was, you wouldn't have known anything had happened last night. He was acting no different than usual. Showering Marjorie with affection, mini make out sessions during the boring bits of whatever they were watching, getting up to get drinks, making lunch, clearing up. Even when Marjorie went to get up to go and do one of these tasks, he'd grab her waist and pull her back down to the sofa before going to do it himself. He'd just gone to clear away their plates from lunch when there was a knock at the door.
"I'll get it." Marjorie shouted through to the kitchen, expecting it to be Charlotte. Sure enough, when she opened the door there, she stood.
"Hello my love, what are you doing here?" She asked, trying to make sure Reece didn't think it was planned.
"Just wanted to pop in and check on you guys." She looked Marjorie up and down wearing just the t-shirt and underwear. "Um, am I interrupting something here?.... Again?" She asked nervously.
"No, my love, no, we're just having a sofa day, that's all. Come on in." As Charlotte walked through to the lounge, Reece re-entered from the kitchen.
"Hey Char. What are you doing here? Is everything OK?" He asked, looking concerned.
"Yea, no, everything's fine. I just wanted to pop by and apologise for last night. I did tell Mia to knock and call. I wasn't expecting her to just let herself in and um... interrupt your evening."
"You don't have to apologise for her for that, Char. I'm used to Mia's complete lack of boundaries. It doesn't make it any less annoying, but I am used to it."
Marjorie came back downstairs at this point wearing the same pair of Reeces joggers she'd briefly worn last night.
"Reece, I do need to ask... What happened last night? I can't get through to Mia this morning at all, and I'm really worried about her. She won't tell me anything. She's going through old photos and videos of you two and Autumn but then trying to hide the fact that she's looking at them from me. I don't know how to get through to her, and I hoped you might." It wasn't all lies. Mia was spending all her time looking at old photos and videos on repeat getting upset at the thought she'd lost Reece after she'd just started feeling she was getting her best friend back, however Mia had told Charlotte everything that had happened the night before and the full stories from the past so Rogers words made sense. Charlotte wasn't about to let Reece know that, though. She hoped that if he thought he was helping her, or maybe even Mia, he'd be more likely to open up.
Reece looked suspiciously at Charlotte. "She's told you pretty much everything about my past. I find it hard to believe she hasn't told you this. Hell, you probably knew before I did."
Charlotte noticed how uncomfortable Reece looked. She saw him slide along the sofa slightly to get closer to Marjorie, his hand now able to touch her shoulder as he rested his arm on the back of the sofa. Marjorie reached up and entwined their fingers together. Charlotte then noticed the same thing Autumn had seen a few weeks back. That Reece physically relaxed slightly at Marjories touch.
"Well, she's not talking now, and I don't know how to help her. You know her better than anyone, I thought you could give me some advice. Even if you are mad at her for whatever reason. I'm guessing Roger said something that upset her, but i don't know what he could have said to upset her this much."
Reece sighed. "The only thing he really aimed at her was about being stupid enough to fall for his trap. He'd fed false information to the guy that went to Mia, hoping he was the one betraying him, and I guess he was right. The only other thing thing aimed at her really was that he'd make sure whatever it was we were all living for was ripped away from us, and this time he'd manage it because he wouldnt rely on a 'stupid little girl' again. The rest was pretty much all to hit a nerve with me."
