Tw: miscarriage this will be for the next few chapters, but it will get happier again, I promise. After I didn't get much feedback on whether to follow the storyline still or go my own way, I decided to explore the parts we didn't see in more detail. It was a hard write, though, so you may find it a hard read as well. Xx
"Morning, Marjorie." Charlotte said, walking into the office.
"Morning Char, you alright?"
"Yes, I'm fine. I just wanted to give you the heads up, I've heard more parents gossiping about Autumn being pregnant this morning. So we really need to warn her so she isn't taken by surprise."
"OK, they're both due back in this afternoon, so I'll speak to them both when they get here." Charlotte thanked Marjorie and went back to carry on with her work.
A little while after, Winter entered the office. "Marjorie."
"Oh hi, Winter, now I just need to warn you that..."
"Marjorie."
"There's been some talk among the parents."
"Marjorie..."
"It's about the pregnancy...."
"MARJORIE!!!" Marjorie was silenced at the tone of voice Winter used. "Whatever it is, it's irrelevant now."
Marjories eyes scanned Winter. She noticed for the first time that his eyes were red and puffy. He looked utterly defeated, and he was alone. "Autumn's not with you." He shook his head sadly. "The baby, it's?"
Winter shook his head again, looking down at the ground and hummed out a no sound.
Marjorie stood there in shock. She wanted to break down but knew it wasn't for her to do that know. Her friends needed her. "Are you OK?" She asked, knowing it was a stupid question.
"Not really."
"What are you even doing here?"
"I'd rather be here, to be honest. I can't face being at home." Marjorie could tell he was trying to fight back the tears.
"How's Autumn?"
"She's autumn, dealing with it in her own way. She's taken herself to the bar. It's why I don't want to be at home. I'd just be there on my own. I'd rather wait until she was ready and we can go back together."
Marjorie couldn't hold it in anymore. She couldn't stop the tears from falling. "Winter, I'm so sorry. Is there anything I can do? How can I help? Just tell me and I'll do it."
"Thank you, Marjorie, I appreciate that. Maybe if you could go to her? I think that would do her some good."
"Yea, yea, I can do that. I'll go right now." Marjorie picked up her bag and left, telling Agatha on her way past she would be out for the rest of the day. When she arrived at the bar, she instantly scanned the room. It wasn't difficult to spot Autumn as it was quiet, given it was still the afternoon. Autumn was sat there wearing one of Winter's hoodies, tracksuit bottoms, and no makeup. Marjorie had never seen her like this. She walked up to Autumn's table and sat down next to her. "Autumn I...."
"Marjorie, if you're here to give me some kind of pep talk, I'm really not in the mood."
"No, no, no, nothing like that, OK. I'm just here to sit and drink... In silence." She looked away, feeling uncomfortable. She felt like she should try and offer some comfort, but what could she say at a time like this? Especially when it was autumn. A person who hated emotion and public displays of affection. "Although if you did want me to go, just say the word, and I'll leave, OK? No questions asked."
