Chapter 13: Little Game

[Y/n's PoV]

"Topaz has been captured," Jade informed curtly. "She's currently held in a room with some people wearing a golden flower on the right side of their suits."

"They got separated earlier. After that, this is where Aventurine informed me about the situation and was now having high stakes bet with some of the members who captured Topaz in order for him to get some information and possibly distracting them."

"So what do you want me to do?" I asked her.

She stayed silent for a moment and turned to gaze around the area noticing a few individuals with the golden flower pinned to their suit before turning back to me.

"You need to find that little trotter Numby, Topaz's companion, since it has a keen sense of smell and can track her location." Jade suggested.

"Wait— me? Shouldn't you at least help me track it down..?" I asked dumbfoundedly.

"Well, let's just say that little trotter isn't quite fond of me hence why it didn't show itself to greet us earlier at our arrival."

"Ahem, putting that aside, I'll engage with the individuals wearing the golden flower to distract them and buy us some time."

...I see.

With a silent understanding, I nodded before we split up. She made her way towards the group of individuals identified with the golden flower as she initiated her act of distracting them.

Meanwhile, I took off my mask and began to search the area and scan my surroundings as I tried to find any signs of a trotter all the while keeping an eye on Jade from afar.

"Good evening," she greeted them. "I couldn't help but notice the... interesting choice of accessories you've adorned yourselves with."

She'll be fine...

As for me, I'll continue to se— hmm?

My eyes suddenly caught sight of someone or rather a unique looking trotter roaming around towards the corridor.

This was easy...

"Are you... Numby..?"

The trotter seemed to light up upon hearing me speak and the pig-like creature began to make a happy chattering sound as it trotted over towards me seemingly recognising the intention of my words.

It then started to circle around me while sniffing my presence and curiously searching through my clothing, but it didn't matter.

"Topaz might be in danger, we need your help to track her down." I requested.

Hearing me mentioned its owner, Numby's ears perked up, and the piglet's mannerisms seemed to change immediately. Then, as if understanding my request, it turned towards the corridor and started trotting towards it for it seemed to be leading the way towards the area where Topaz might be held captive.

I quickly made my way through the corridor and the sounds of the casino dimmed— the air growing heavier with an eerie tension. Numby's keen sense of smell led the way as the young piglet guided me with a determination that I could sense from the intensity of its steps.

The corridor twisted and turned, leading me through the labyrinthine depths of the casino.

Soon enough, I arrived at the area, and suddenly the piglet began to emit a rapid series of grunting and squealing noises; it was clear that it picked up on Topaz's scent.

"I'll take it from here. Stay here and keep hidden. Don't alert Topaz's subordinates just yet" I whispered quietly.

"Oink!"
