The room was a pristine white with a one-way glass mirror on the wall to the left. The air was sterile and lacked smell, and the only sound that could be heard is the quiet whirring of the air conditioning inside.

The table between me and that woman was made of cold, hard steel, and I had my wrists shackled behind my back.

There was no emotion on her face, only a quiet and stoic expression.

My body was still sore from the chain wrapped around my body— remembering the metal links that felt like cold fingers digging my skin. I could barely lift my head to look at the woman sitting on the opposite end of the table; her pink hair was neatly combed and her hands gently placed on the table. Now I wondered what was going through her head.

"How long have you harbored that grudge?"

...?

The question was sudden, and the abruptness of it almost caught me off guard but I met her gaze with my own, remaining as impassive as possible. I wasn't sure what she meant, and I couldn't help but think it was some sort of trick question.

"Why do you care?" I asked her quietly.

The woman however, leaned against her seat, a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. She was observing me like I was a new toy. I couldn't be sure if she was amused or annoyed.

"You haven't answered my question." she replied calmly.

"Why should I? It's pointless to even discuss it."

"Pointless?" She repeated, "Maybe to you it might seem that way."

Her tone was... friendly at least, almost as if she was trying to put me at ease. But there was still that cold edge to her voice as though she was only humouring me to make it easier to get what she wanted.

"Why? I'll be put in jail one way or another for killing my own parents, yes? So it's better to stop this question and just throw me through prison."

But the woman chuckled at my response, shaking her head.

"I'm not talking about your current predicament. I meant the reason why you've been harbouring a grudge all this time. The one that pushed you to do that. You think prison time is the solution to all of this? Hmm, interesting~"

I see...

It was clear that she wasn't bothered about the fact that I had committed a crime. In fact, she might even be entertained by it.

"I've heard about what happened in your household. Your mother lost all that money in a gambling ring, leaving your family on the brink of financial ruin. Your father was never a good person, always drunk and looking for someone to take his anger out on. But when the money ran out, it was your turn."

There was no sympathy in her voice as she spoke of my parents' wrongdoings.

"And that concerns you how exactly..?" I asked coldly.

"It concerns me... because you've just become a 'valuable' investment. As you can see, not everyone will find a criminal— especially a murderer, valuable."

"But what if I told you I could give you a chance to use that life of yours towards a more productive purpose? A path that would benefit both you and the IPC." She then gestured forward while smirking at me.

However, I turned down her offer immediately.

"Not interested," I answered bluntly. "Can't you see I'm willing to take my own life if you would just let these handcuffs off me?"
