the fear of not being good enough
As Octavia and Athena packed up all the tents, Athena couldn't help but ask, "How on earth did it take you 20 minutes to get me water?" Octavia just smirked in response.
"You did it on purpose, didn't you?" Athena stood in front of her, shaking her head in disbelief.
"Anything to help two oblivious people out," Octavia replied with a sly grin, continuing her work.
They were busy emptying the camp, intent on escaping before the grounders arrived. The thought of getting far away from constant danger was a relief to Athena.
Despite Octavia's playful demeanor, Athena still struggled to wrap her mind around the idea of Bellamy having feelings for her. Yet, there was a glimmer of hope in her heart, faint but persistent, warming her to the possibility.
Lost in her thoughts, Athena continued working diligently. Finally, as she completed the tasks at hand, she took a moment to survey the now-empty camp.
All that remained were the stark walls surrounding them, a silent witness to their hurried departure.
As they began their departure from the camp, Athena's eyes scanned the area, searching for any sign of Bellamy.
Octavia marched ahead, accompanied by Jasper, their footsteps echoing against the quiet backdrop of the abandoned camp. But Bellamy was conspicuously absent.
Athena's brow furrowed in concern as she glanced around, her gaze darting from one corner to another, hoping to catch a glimpse of Bellamy.
As the other teenagers filed past her, Athena's gaze lingered, still searching for Bellamy amidst the departing group. Then, finally, she spotted him emerging from the dropship, his steps faltering as he glanced back.
"Feeling nostalgic already?" Athena quipped, walking up to him with a teasing smile. Bellamy shook his head, his expression heavy with regret.
"More so regretful," he admitted, his voice tinged with honesty. "Eighteen people are dead. Eighteen people I couldn't protect," he confessed, his words weighed down by the burden of responsibility.
"82 people you were able to protect," she interjected softly, her fingers intertwining with his as she squeezed his hand reassuringly. "Without you, we would all be dead," she added, her voice unwavering in its conviction.
Bellamy met her gaze, gratitude flickering in his eyes as a faint smile tugged at the corners of his lips.
"Come on," Athena urged, her tone gentle yet determined. "Let's go; we've got an ocean waiting for us." With a gentle tug on his hand, she began to lead him forward.
As Athena and Bellamy fell into step with the group from behind, a palpable silence settled over them, casting an eerie atmosphere.
After what felt like an eternity of walking, the group suddenly came to a halt. Athena's heart pounded in her chest as she strained to see what lay ahead, her senses on high alert, her mind racing with a flurry of questions and fears.
With a sense of foreboding settling over her, Athena exchanged a worried glance with Bellamy.
Raven's voice pierced the silence with a question that echoed the thoughts racing through everyone's minds. "Why are we stopping?"
The question hung in the air, unanswered, as tension thickened around them. Then, before anyone could offer an explanation, Jasper's voice shattered the stillness with a desperate scream. "Grounders!"
Panic erupted like wildfire, spreading through the group with frantic urgency. Without hesitation, without needing further confirmation, instinct kicked in, and the only thought that mattered was survival.
