a battle against imaginary enemies; fighting your shadow
Athena's fingers danced through the tangled mess of wires, her brows knitted in concentration. "Ignition system," she kept mumbling under her breath, her eyes scanning each bundle for the elusive component. Raven had been specific about what to look for, yet nothing seemed to match her description.
"Raven, I can't find it," Athena called out, her voice tinged with frustration.
"Raven?" she called again, louder this time.
Finally, a weak, distant voice broke the silence. "I can't feel my legs."
"I'll be right there!" Athena shouted as she scrambled up the ladder. She reached the top and rushed over to her friend. To her luck, Clarke had just rushed into the dropship.
"Clarke, come here for a second!" Athena called urgently, waving her over as she hovered over Raven, who was groaning in pain.
Clarke hurried over, her eyes widening as she saw Raven's state.
Clarke carefully lifted Raven's shirt. Raven let out a piercing scream, her body trembling. Clarke and Athena both gasped as they saw the dark purple bruises spreading across Raven's back.
Clarke glanced at Athena, and their eyes locked, both reflecting the same deep worry and fear.
"That bad, huh?" Raven asked, her voice trembling as she tried to manage a weak smile. Athena reached out and placed a comforting hand on Raven's shoulder, her touch gentle yet reassuring.
Clarke took a deep breath, her face somber as she delivered the bad news. "The bullet's lodged in your spine, Raven. You're bleeding internally."
The room fell into a heavy silence. Even Finn, who had just entered, stood frozen in shock, absorbing the gravity of the situation.
"We better do this fast then, huh?" Raven chuckled shakily, her eyes reflecting a mix of fear and determination. "Athena, get back down there. We need that ignition system."
Athena nodded, her jaw set with resolve. "I'm on it," she replied, giving Raven's hand a squeeze before standing up.
"Any luck yet, Athena?" Raven called out, her voice strained with pain but laced with urgency.
"No," Athena replied, her tone heavy with guilt and frustration. She felt the pressure mounting as every second ticked by.
"It'll be orange. Look harder! You have to find the wire that connects the manual override to the electromagnet," Raven instructed.
Athena shook her head, trying to make sense of Raven's words. The only thing that stuck out was "orange." She continued to sift through the tangled mess of wires, her eyes darting around frantically.
"Come on, Athena, you can do this," she muttered to herself, trying to stay focused.
Then, her eyes caught a glimpse of it. "Found it!" Athena yelled out excitedly, her heart leaping as she finally spotted the orange wire.
"Now follow that wire to the override panel," Raven instructed, her voice slightly calmer now that there was some progress.
"Uh, okay," Athena mumbled, her fingers tracing the orange wire. But as she reached the panel, her heart sank. "I think it might be fried," she called out, her voice trembling.
Raven's face contorted with pain, but she shouted back, "You know how to splice a wire?"
Athena shook her head, surprised that Raven was asking her this. "No, I don't even know what that means."
Raven let out a loud groan of frustration and pain. Before Athena could respond, Jasper's voice crackled through the radio in her hand. "They're everywhere! Harper, get down! We need backup! Raven, our mines actually worked!"
Athena allowed herself a brief smile, happy that the mines were working. However, the situation outside sounded terrifying, and she was relieved to be inside the dropship.
She climbed up the ladder to Raven as her voice cut through her thoughts."Jasper can splice."
Athena's eyes widened. "Should I get Jasper?" Raven nodded, wincing with the effort. "Yeah, get him. We don't have much time."
Athena quickly grabbed her walkie-talkie. "Jasper, we need your help in the dropship."
But instead of Jasper's voice, it was Bellamy's that crackled through the device. "Can't do that right now, Bambi. We can't give up the west woods."
Athena couldn't help the flush that crept up her neck at the nickname, now knowing its meaning all too well. "Aren't those mined? We really need Jasper."
Athena waited anxiously, the tension palpable as the gunners' voices clashed through the walkie-talkie.
"You like Bellamy," came Raven's voice from behind her.
Athena turned around, her expression a mix of surprise and embarrassment as she met Raven's knowing gaze, the corners of Raven's lips curled into a playful smile.
"Did Octavia tell you?" Athena asked, feeling a flush creeping up her cheeks.
"No, your face did," Raven replied with a chuckle.
"It's kind of obvious, you know," Raven continued, her tone gentle. "The way you look at him when you think no one's watching."
Athena sighed softly, her gaze drifting away from Raven's penetrating eyes. "It's not like it matters. He's always swamped, and it seems like there's always some emergency."
Raven's expression softened, her empathy evident. "You never know, Athena. He might feel the same way. You should tell him."
Athena shook her head, a small, resigned smile tugging at her lips as her ponytail swayed with the movement. "I can't. Not now, anyway. There's too much going on."
Just then, Bellamy's voice crackled through the walkie-talkie, interrupting their conversation. "Repeat, do not fire until you are sure"
"Bambi, you might want to turn off your walkie -talkie; we can all hear you"
