the strong urge to avoid someone or something
The night was tormented by restless sleep, plagued by haunting nightmares that refused to release their grip on Athena's mind. In her dreams, she saw Murphy, vulnerable and alone, surrounded by unseen dangers lurking in the shadows of the forest.
Memories of her life on the Ark flooded her thoughts, bringing with them a wave of regret and sorrow. With each passing hour, the weight of her past grew heavier.
No one knew why she had been arrested , not even Murphy knew. She was not planning on telling anyone anytime soon anyway.
However the memories of her arrest kept plaguing her. She kept rolling around in her sleeping bag, so she got up and walked to the dropship. Climbing up the ladder quietly as many delinquents around her were sleeping.
"Oh hey, you're all awake!" Athena exclaimed as she stepped into the dropship. Her heart lifted at the sight of her friends gathered around Monty, their faces illuminated by the soft glow of makeshift lights. For a brief moment, the warmth of their company made the chaos outside feel like a distant nightmare.
Octavia caught Athena's eye, her expression tinged with concern. "Hey, Athena, are you okay? Couldn't sleep?" she asked, her voice gentle.
Athena shrugged, trying to downplay her restlessness. "Yeah, couldn't seem to shut off my brain," she admitted, her smile tinged with a hint of tiredness. "But being here with you guys helps."
"Bad dreams?" Jasper inquired, his eyebrows knitting together as he observed her. "Something like that," Athena replied, grateful for the distraction her friends provided.
"Will we be able to talk to them?" Jasper asked, a mixture of hope and uncertainty in his voice as he leaned closer to his best friend, Monty.
Monty shook his head, a wry smile tugging at his lips. "Not exactly. More like Morse code," he explained, pointing to a port on the makeshift communication device he'd been working on. "You want to do the honors? Just plug it in right there."
Jasper reached out, hesitating for a moment before inserting the connector. Almost immediately, a loud "tschh" sound erupted, followed by a burst of sparks that crackled through the air. The group jumped back in surprise, their eyes widening in shock.
"What just happened?" Athena asked, her voice tight with alarm as she stared at the now-smoldering wristbands in front of her.
She had handed over her wristband to Monty that morning, hopeful that it might help establish a link to the Ark. Now, it looked charred and useless.
Monty's face fell as he examined the damage. "It didn't work," he admitted, his tone heavy with disappointment. "I think we fried all the wristbands."
"Oh, great," Athena muttered, her shoulders slumping as she picked up her fried wristband. Her earlier hope of finding a way to communicate with the Ark had fizzled out, leaving her more frustrated than before.
Athena sighed, her disappointment palpable as she stared down at the ruined device. "Well, that's just fantastic," she said, her voice tinged with irritation. "Guess we're stuck here without any way to contact the Ark."
"Good night, everyone," Athena called softly as she glanced back at her disappointed friends for one last time before leaving the dropship. Despite the setbacks of the day, a small, wistful smile played on her lips.
The sight of Octavia and Jasper sitting close together, brought out a smile on the girl's face.
Athena made her way back to her tent, each step measured and quiet in the stillness of the night. She unzipped the flap and settled onto her sleeping bag, hoping that sleep would come easier this time.
She closed her eyes, willing her mind to quiet, but rest remained elusive. Frustration welled up inside her, making her feel even more restless.
After what felt like an eternity of tossing and turning, Athena sighed and sat up. The confines of the tent felt suffocating, her thoughts swirling like a storm she couldn't escape. She decided to get up and left her tent, feeling the cool night air on her skin.
She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself, and started walking toward the forest. Suddenly, a faint glow caught her eye. Far off among the trees, she saw a flickering light.
Curiosity piqued, she walked closer, her steps cautious and deliberate. As she approached, the glow resolved into a cluster of fireflies, their tiny bodies emitting a soft, ethereal light that danced in the darkness.
"Woah," she breathed, her eyes widening in awe. The gentle flickering of the fireflies illuminated the night, casting a mesmerizing glow that painted the world in delicate, shimmering hues.
For a while, she simply stood there, letting the tranquility of the forest and the enchanting presence of the fireflies wash over her. It was a welcome respite from the turmoil of camp life, a fleeting but precious escape from reality.
After a while , she started getting sleepy and decided it was time to try and sleep again. She entered the camp and saw a bunch of delinquents up from their sleeping bags.
"What's happening?" Athena asked, her voice cutting through the murmur of voices, though she wasn't directing her question at anyone in particular.
"Check it out," a boy said, his voice tinged with awe as he pointed at the sky. Athena's gaze followed his outstretched finger, her eyes widening as she spotted a bright streak descending from the sky.
"Bellamy, get out here!" another delinquent called urgently.Athena's heart skipped a beat as Bellamy emerged from his tent, his silhouette framed against the soft glow of the campfires.
He was shirtless. Athena's gaze lingered on him for a moment longer than she intended, a confusing mix of emotions welling up inside her. She quickly averted her eyes, feeling a flush of heat rise to her cheeks.
Her mind flashed back to the day's events, the confrontation over Murphy's banishment, and the unresolved tension that hung between her and Bellamy.
Despite her conflicted feelings towards his actions, she couldn't help but feel a tug of attraction. The sight of another girl emerging from the tent alongside Bellamy sent a sharp pang through her chest.
Athena's eyes narrowed as she saw the girl—Roma—by Bellamy's side, her arm brushing against his as they stood together. She tried to maintain her composure, but the sight of Roma's familiarity with Bellamy sent a ripple of unease through her.
Pretending to be unaware of the freckled boy standing close behind her, Athena forced herself to focus on the sky, her eyes fixed on the descending streak. The boy's warm presence was unmistakable, his breath tickling the back of her neck, but she refused to let it distract her from the scene unfolding above.
Roma, the girl who had been with Bellamy, moved to stand next to Athena. Her voice broke through the night, loud and clear, dripping with a blend of sarcasm and hope.
"Please tell me they brought down some shampoo."
