Star's POV
"He hates me." I tell Ian, tears running down my face.
"He just needs some time." Ian tells me. I turn to face him, and he says, "Dallas doesn't hate you."
"I really fucked up." I give Ian a hug while keeping my face hidden in the crook of his neck.
Ian gives me a tight embrace and rubs my back.
"I don't want to lose him." I say.
"You won't lose him Star, he cares a lot about you."
"What if he doesn't anymore?"
"Impossible." He breaks the hug. "Dallas could never stop caring about you." He sweeps my tears. "You know he came back last night after storming off.""I just feel so bad."
"Star, he's just upset. You two will work this out if you let him work out his emotions."
I give a head nod.
"Resting is what you should be doing right now. Your only task for today is to heal; I'll buy you some food." Ian gives a kind grin.
"T-thank you." I meet his eyes. "I'm sorry for crossing my limit."
"Been there before so I'm not one to judge." He laughs a little. "Come on lets get you back into bed."Dallas' POV
When I returned to Ian and my house, I ordered some takeout and hurriedly showered. I was hungry, worn out, and extremely frustrated.
The most difficult thing about it all was that I couldn't figure out if I was mad at Star or if I just felt pity. My mind was racing with all of the memories from last night, and they wouldn't stop.
I could not get her words to go out of my mind. The person I witnessed last night wasn't my best friend.
Star mentioning wanting to die was haunting me. The worst thing is that I am aware of her pain but am unable to stop it. I don't know if she understands it, but rehashing her past—which wasn't even that long ago—is tearing her down.
How can I help? What can I do?
I groaned, feeling if my head were spinning. After taking a shower, I wrapped a towel around myself. I immediately headed to my room and collapsed onto the bed.
My mind kept racing with thoughts that would not go away. I couldn't get the image of Star dancing against Jacob out of my head. I was lost as to why it bothered me so much, so I massaged my temples and sighed.
Even though I felt bad about leaving her, it was the right decision. I think I'm still to emotional to even approach her. I want to give her a tight hug so badly that I can't even look at her.
I'm relieved that she's with Ian since I know he'll look after her.
I yawned and rubbed my eyes because I was very tired. I slowly sensed my eyes shutting on me. Probably need to get some rest......
Ian's POV
I stood in front of the bathroom door as Star was throwing up. I had ordered food and convinced her to eat even though she felt like she couldn't. After the first bite she rushed to the bathroom.
I could hear her gagging while the water was flowing. She opened the door after she was done.
"Oh fuck this." Her expression is gloomy.
"Come on let's try again.." I take hold of her arm and lead her back to the table.
Star tried her hardest to eat, but her body couldn't handle much. She was absolutely consuming a lot of orange juice and water, which was good.
Star asks, "Are you feeling okay?""Yeah why?"
"It's just you've been taking care of me all day."
"I'm okay." I nodded.
Of course, I was also hung over, but it was unimportant at the moment. What matters right now is her.
We moved from the kitchen to the living room and started watching a movie there. I was watching Star, and she was watching the movie.
Her heartbreaking remarks from the previous night kept coming back to me.
"Hey Star." I raise my voice.
"Yes?" Her eyes remained focused on the film.
"Do you remember what you told me last night?"
"Was it bad?" she asks as she pauses the film and turns to face me. An anxious look takes over.
"Well, it was sad." I swallow."I'm sorry I can't remember..." Her hands are twiddling.
"You told me you feel broken and that there's days you don't even want to wake up..."
There is silence among us.
"I-I was just drunk." She says.
"Stuff like that just doesn't come from no where..."
Taking a deep breath, she glances down at her hands. "I'm sorry... I guess I essentially moved on from my past and assumed it would all fade away. Of course I knew that I would have to deal with the trauma, but I still don't understand. I've been crying for years to get to this point, yet I still hurt." She gives me a look."Star, it's inevitable that you will be hurt because the individuals who were meant to keep you safe neglected to do so. You are simply hurt; you are not broken. However, that does not mean you are not worthy of a good life." I place my hands over hers.
"I don't want them to have this control over me. I want to build a bright future for myself."
"And you will. Take a look around you and see what you've accomplished. Look at this house, you have an amazing career. This was achieved by you."
"Yeah I guess so." She lets out a little laugh."Hey Dallas and I truly do care about you. But we don't want to treat you like a child or anything, we do worry and we simply want what's best for you. We are aware of how difficult this has been for you, but often you won't let us in, and we just don't know what's going on. We're here for you regardless."
"Thank you Ian." She gives me a tight squeeze.
"I think you should go check on Dallas."
"I'll give him a call, I want to make sure you're okay."
"I'm okay, you did more than enough for me. You should be there for him too."
"Are you sure?"
Her head nods, "I think I'm just going to sleep this nasty feeling away.""Okay, but call me if anything changes."
"I will. Thank you Ian."
I watched her get comfy in bed and I made my way to Dallas.
As I approach our door, I notice a food delivery. I call out for Dallas and bring it in with me.
He's asleep in his room, wrapped in a towel, when I find him. Typical of him, truly.
"Hey Dallas." I give him a gentle shake.
"Hmm?" His eyes open slowly.
"Your food is here. I'll reheat it while you get dressed."
"Oh fuck I knocked out." Rubbing his eyes, he says.
I enter our kitchen and put his meal in the microwave. I hand him a bottle of water as soon as he enters the kitchen.
"You feeling okay?"
"Eh, could be better." Taking a mouthful of water, he says.
I set the plate of food before him.
"You want some?" He asks."I'm good, I ate with Star." I say.
"Ah okay." He chews. "How is she?" He awkwardly asks.
"You know she feels terrible about what happened." I let him know.
"Well, I do too." He takes a bite of his food, blankly. "Is she okay though?"
I give a head nod.
"That makes one of us." He utters. "Sorry I-."
"What's going on?"
"I just feel anxious that's all."Dallas switches the topic just in time for me to respond.
"I'm surprised you're here."
"Just checking up on you."
"You could have just called."
"Star urged me to come."
"Oh." He replies. "You think it's okay to leave her by herself?"
"Yes. She plans on sleeping it out."
"I mean... You don't think she's going to drink some more?"
"No, not with the hangover she's currently having. I'm hoping it can convince her to avoid ever drinking again."
"Yeah.... Hopefully." He gives a sigh.Star's POV
After a four-hour nap, I watched tv in bed while occasionally using my phone.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't hoping for a text from Dallas.
I really wanted to text him, but I also wanted to give him the space he needs. I knew he was alright at least, because of Ian.
My door bell rings, and I groan. Who could it be?
Since it can't be somebody important right now, I choose to ignore it. However, it goes off again.
I rip the covers off in frustration and stand up. Moving groggily towards the door.
"Jacob?" I discover on my door step.*****************************************
