Star's POV

While I waited for Jacob to arrive, I sat in my garden. Speaking with him at home made me feel more at ease than in any other place. I'm hoping to learn the whole truth today. After what Ian told me, it was difficult for me to sleep last night.

He had witnessed Jacob and Kass talking for the first time some months prior at the Elle party. For how long have they've been talking behind my back? Is it really necessary to be that sneaky? I simply don't get why their conversations need to be kept secret.

I'm terrified, therefore there was a part of me that didn't want to have this conversation. I'm afraid of being let down since everything seems to be whirling around me like a tornado. All I want is for anything positive to happen to me; I'm not sure if I can handle another moment of pain.

"Thank you." I say as a pot of coffee is set down on the table by the housekeeper Vivian, who was employed while I was abroad.

"Your guest has arrived." She alerts me.

From the living room door, I see Jacob approaching.

My body starts to tingle with nerves, and I get incredibly anxious right away.

My heart began to race, and all I could do was gaze at the table.

"Hi." Beside me, he's stretching out for an embrace.

"Hi." I stay seated and give him a hug.

He sits down and presents me two gorgeous bouquets of flowers.

"Two?"

"You forgot the one's from yesterday at Gucci so I wanted make you sure you had those."

"Thank you." Shifting them aside I say.

"And the other one's are because I'm an idiot."

I ask him, "Coffee?"

He pours the two of them coffee while pressing his lips to the side.

"Star, I'm really sorry." He states.

"Jacob."

"I shouldn't have said that, it was really fucked up."

"Why did you lie about the coffee shop?"

His lips part a little and he turns pale.

"I know you lied." I swallow. "I went to go talk to Kass and she had no idea when I mentioned the coffee shop."

With a sigh, he runs a palm over his face. "I can explain."

"Please do. What else are you lying to me about?

"We didn't crash into each other at a coffee shop."

"I know that, why lie?"

"You were so mad and I didn't want you to freak out more."

"So it's my fault?" I say, pulling together and lowering my eyebrows as I bring the corners of my mouth downward.

"No of course not." Pulling his chair closer to me, he says. "Kass had called me to talk about the shoot, and when I saw you there fighting with her I knew that telling you the truth was going to make everything worse."

"Why were you protecting her?" Biting my lip, I avert my gaze.

"No, I wasn't protecting her. It was incorrect, but I was trying to protect you. I'm sorry." Pulling my face toward him, he says.

"Jacob, do you like Kass?" I ask him.

"What? No." Shocked that I would think that, he says.

"So what are you guys hiding from me? You two seem to be really close, and you defend her all the time."
