"I'm quitting T20i captaincy" he said in a neutral tone and left from there.

Anushka's mind went blank....

She couldn't process what he said, it was so random and sudden. He simply said that and left. Her eyes were wide open.

"Sir, I'll just call you back. It's a bit urgent" she said to the director and ran to him.

She stopped him and asked "Virat, what did you say?"

"I'm giving up t20 captaincy. I think it's High time" he said in a neutral tone.

"But why so suddenly" she asked in concern.

"It's not sudden Anu, I've been thinking about it for a while" he said and went to the room.

"But you never told me about this" she inquired.

"You never asked me about it" he said instantly turning to her.

"Why would I ask about it? There were no hints..and I had no idea that you were even thinking of giving up the captaincy " she argued.

"Chill...it's my decision. It's my career, I don't need to inform each and everything" he muttered in an unbothered tone.

He was annoyed for some other reasons. But he was showing it to her. She had no idea why he was talking to her like that.

"Oh...ok. Fine, now don't tell me anything related to your career . Your career is yours, mine is mine." She snapped and went out of the room.

He dreaded himself for talking to her like that. There was no mistake from her side, but he was getting irritated by the things happening to him. If he stays with her for more time, he will simply create a rift between the both of them for no reason.

He officially quit t20i captaincy

So after a week, he decided to go back to India. He took Ved with him this time. He went to Anushka's house as it was a long time since he met her mom and dad.

After a few days Anushka came back. She saw Virat not talking to her and was extremely engaged with Ved. So she thought he might be fine. But there was something inside him which was eating him.

He went for the next tour after some days and he did not perform well in any of the formats. He was falling deeper and deeper after every tour. And there was no light at the end of it.

He used to call Anushka every day. But seldom did he share his sorrows . He always showed a fake smiling face in video calls and Anushka bought that.

She used to tell him everything will get better, but with time, she too felt it wasn't going anywhere. She tried to distract him with Ved and other topics. And he played along pretending as if he was actually distracted.

But he took it in a different way. He remembered what she said back in Paris that she won't talk about his career. But in reality, she would never do that. She had already forgotten about it.

Virat POV

The nights were getting longer for me. I was not able to close my eyes at all thinking about my future in cricket. I have never faced such a situation after the initial phase of my career.

The worst part was, I couldn't share it with anyone. I didn't want to burden Anushka with my sorrows, especially after stupidly declaring to her that it's my career and none of her business.
